Bring it on.

Might actually be in a favoured spot for a change

Yep they're over analysing Day 10 outputs which are chopping and changing on a regular basis as they hope for something truly outstanding weather wise. Seems like a pretty typical westerly dominated winter with a few colder/snowy interludes to me? The SSW not really manifesting itself yet has done for many in there.

The thing is for those who live that far south, events that would be just the ride side of marginal for us are generally the wrong side of marginal. I've suggested they just move up north if they care that much before, but it didn't go down that well with the mods.  Yet a lot of them still chase after the blizzards and several foot of snow when historically there area has been lucky to get a dusting. It beggars belief that you'd be so bothered about the idea of a "full arctic freeze" with 2ft of snow when you rarely see a few cms, I want to see a deep arctic freeze up here but that's because at this point, and I know I sound spoiled, a few cms of snow is something I expect in a winter; even through the mild December I knew at some point this winter there was probably going to be a snow event, those extremely far south don't have that luxury.

I really like the focused model discussion approach as it means you can generally avoid the banter thread or just skim it for a few none cross-posted in-depth analysis. Tuesday is beginning to look promising for this region.

Probably the main reasoin i don't visit the forum as often as i used to .... the constant bickering and toys out of pram when the best from the east doesn't appers in the MO thread. I can understand it though as i suppose there are many more members in those areas who post ... but still theres no need for the majority of the hysteria.  Try balancing it out with a touch of realism from another part of the country though and thats when the fun really starts ......

Anyway, we got a little bit of snow here on Tuesday with some snow that settled on tuesday night that was still there on wed morning.

As others have said next week shows some potential for another dusting  .... wind direction again good for us in this part of the world just need the temps to be on the right side of marginal.  Fingers crossed..

it would be great if there was a model thread that only 'accredited' posters could comment in. that way, even though we may get differing opinions, we wouldn't  have the idiots arguing with one another. the pseudo experts are ruining this site.... and there's more and more of them posting!!

I struggle to read the MOD thread due to most posters lacking the ability to use 'too' correctly.

Really irritates me.

Steve Murr is the worst.

never mind there vs their and there's some that are unintelligible with their abbreviations and incorrect use of vocabulary. I I said on the Apropros of Nothing thread it's just a good job William Archibald Spooner wasn't responsible for the Hunt for Cold thread...

Well Focused Discussion attempts to balance that out, any obvious bullshit in that thread gets called out. Maybe best just to comment on the runs in here together with a ridiculous IMBY NW bias, there's enough of us feeling despondent with the mod thread to manage it.

He's the messiah in there. A bit like when Jesus turned water into wine (which is amazing....hic!):drunk-emoji: Steve Murr turns rain into snow.

I'm better at turning wine into a form of water, but I have the same initials!

A meagre dusting a couple on Wednesday night the only settling snow I have seen this winter, not expecting much from Tuesday's 'event' either.

Must admit I was rather chuffed with my predictions for the last few days 'events' where 'something significant' was over-hyped and forecasted by nw members -  it rubbed a few people up the  wrong way, including some who live local to me, but ultimately I was right  (again.)

Here we go again. Someone who lives in one of the wettest lowest towns in the country moaning about not seeing snow on a ridiculously IMBY level despite living minutes away from hills plastered in the stuff even as the rest of ours has melted. Get a grip fffs. It was something significant in much of the North West if not in your back yard, that is of course the nature of showers.

Wednesday event might have been rubbish IYBY but it was great here with a few cms of the snow that only fully melted with this mornings rainfall. Yes it's milder today but next week holds potential, and yes even in one of the lowest wettest towns in England could see something.  Reasons to be cheerful.

At no point did I moan about not seeing snow.

Just making the point that I got my prediction right after being lambasted by certain members of the forum.

Please read my posts if you are going to quote them. Thank you.

I am reading your posts. I don't know if your oblivious to it but not did only did it have a gloating tone, it had a moaning town throughout. It's almost as if you've already written this winter off, and additionally to that are failing to temper your expectations of snow events for where you are living. You are never going to see a foot of snow, even widespread snow events will deliver sleet in your location due to the hills enclosing the area and the low altitude. You know that as well as I do, but the beauty of that is those hills are an hours walk from your house. The rest of us can often need an hours drive after high ground events, so enjoy what you have got snow wise.

Nobody said that event would deliver for your altitude, it was always marginal. The failed easterly, yes some of us got wrong, but so did many professionals. And all background signals are that there'll be more opportunities for snow and cold. Living where you do patience is required in these winters, writing it off in January is a bit premature.

Asked this in the MAD thread, but some of you might know?

Hands up as an amateur who watches these out of morbid fascination and mild addiction. Any experts around?

Regards Tuesday. Am I right in thinking that we have a potential low pressure affecting Scotland and Northern England and a separate low pressure system with the potential to affect Southern England? Both able to bring snow, is it possible that these two low pressures could merge and if so would that intensify the amount of wind and precipitation associated with them? What is the realistic likelihood of something like that happening?

The low mid week has downgraded somewhat though. Hopefully we see corrections the other way soon.

Tuesday keeps upgrading though. Wow. Look at those DPs and all that precipitation.
