I can only surmise that the ppn was heavier at the coast and evaporative cooling assisted those in the Liverpool area, nothing at all here other than cold rain.

I think thats probably quite near the reality Ramp

Is that the first signs of some sort of intensifying second PPN band forming behind the main one on the radar between Southport and Liverpool?

Anyway a bit of heavy falling snow here so far, lame attempt to stick but all in all a nice start to the cold spell and certainly better than anything else so far this winter.

How often do we watch the midlands get decent snow while we sit here with flurries. :wallbash:

Well 165m up and it's snow yes but wet 50p flakes. SLowly getting a dryer feel but only slushy deposits really. Crewe will probably be sleet?

A bit of wet sleet earlier but now rain.  Hopefully much better prospects next week although there's still lots of things in the mix which could be hero or zero for the wintry white stuff.

Upgrade for next week based on the gfs! Juicy northwesterly on Tuesday turning gradually northerly and then northeasterly. This limits the mix out of cold uppers and more chance to retain the snow cover. Also, a somewhat slacker flow allowing more surface cooling especially at night.

Great news mate- if we were on 3-2-1 today we would be getting the dusty bin!!

Absolute insane to see this continually upgrade as we get closer to the event! Really could be the one. Appears to go the exact opposite of the holy grail I described above in starting with a NW'ly then a NE'ly but the end product looks good.

GFS: Shortwave is coming down from the north/northwest at 195 hours bringing a snowfest for our region! This is a high risk scenario and too far out to take seriously at this stage but it shows what can happen when you have established cold over us.

In a nutshell, next week and beyond is cold to very cold with snow chances for all.

Could be a very very good cold spell coming up.

Just now, Deep Snow please said:

Can you get snow depth charts on this, could be a laugh?

Don’t think you can get snow depth charts from the MetO ?
