Didn’t want to post this in the main mod thread as it would get deleted but the overnight MO outlook has downgraded again to say

‘This cold spell is by no means certain though’

This is a new sentence!

Looks like they can’t say for sure the SSW will impact us ☹️

This where I do criticise the Met Office

"After a chilly start, it will stay cold through today. There will be some decent sunshine, but the cloud will be thicker in the northwest."

Surely they can see from satellite imagery that this is not the case?

Well minimum was -0.9°C which occurred before midnight last night. The cloud did come in after that and so we remained above freezing for the rest of the night.

I should point out, that  was only the third air frost of the actual winter but I had 3 more in autumn including 2 in October.

AGAIN, the promise of a sunny day has been replaced by a thick layer of 10/10 cover stratus cloud. This has been a disgusting winter so far. We’re really being punished for the high sunshine totals of summer 2018. People with SAD disorder are really going to start suffering soon. I can’t even remember what the sun looks like!

Skies rapidly clouded back over again last night. No visible frost this morning. Met office say -4C minimum tonight. No chance of that happening. The cloud isn’t even trying to clear on the satellite.

People who take their long range text forecasts as gospel are always going to be wrong. They can’t even write an accurate 24 hour text forecast. No wonder they lost the BBC contract. Useless.

Different day, same amount of cloud. Depressing.

As others have said, the worst kind of winter weather and it certainly felt damn cold sat on the football this afternoon.

One of the most boring winters ever so far. No snow, incessantly dull, hardly any storms either. It needs a kick up the backside.

All looking a bit downbeat in the mod thread tonight with the “nailed-on”  snowmaggedon being pushed back again and now scheduled for around mid summer.

never mind at least we’ll have some light nights to enjoy the sledging.

I agree thought after the hot summer we had we would have had more storms than we had and October  November is usually very windy too but nothing to get excited over

It tends to be windy around late December early January here but it’s more to do with diet than the position of the jet stream

it has been a bore fest so far though and if we can’t have snow and cold then give me gales.

My thoughts correct me if I’m wrong but I thought it was usually windy October November time to blow the remaining leaves off the trees

A very monotonous period of weather watching of late...all grey and no white.  A snappy little low will slide around Scotland and into the north sea tomorrow so at least it will stir up the atmosphere and shift the cloud.  The really cold weather well out the East.

Now that the decorations have come down, the endless & miserable gloom is even more apparent. No wonder people have SAD. January really is the worst time of the year
