A belated Happy New Year's Day to all.

The change of month and year ushered in an improvement in the weather.  Endless days of dripping damp, grey skies but today we had sunshine for most of the time with more forecast, albeit with cold nights and increasingly cold days.  As the old saw says, as the days get longer, the cold becomes stronger.  Noticed the coldies are salivating over the prospects of the current SSW event.

New Year Days 2019 the best weather day since christmas eve. Lots of sunshine, blue sky and light winds - very appealing and positive way to start the new year, and a few more days of such conditions to come - just the tonic. Alas tonight will bring a decent air frost, and tomorrow looks like being a carbon copy of christmas eve - frost lingering all day and temps maxing out about 4 degrees at best before a rapid fall in the evening, overnight tomorrow early hours thursday could be notably cold one.

Pity the fells are snowfree at the moment, come excellent winter walking conditions would be beckoning, mind without snow underfoot conditions tomorrow and days ahead will be ideal with hard frost making ground easy to walk on - no muddy boots.

Bit gutted really! Today was supposed to be a day of unbroken sunshine, but it’s currently overcast with cloud spilling in from the east...

Fifth air frost of the winter last night with a minimum of -1.7°C. The WRF predicted a minimum of 3.0°C. Oh dear. Should be even colder tonight.

Reached an air pressure of 1045.4 mbar at 10:30.

Not sure about that Chris, forecast has badly underestimated cloud amounts. It was suppose to be a sunny day but more of England has clouded over as the day has gone on. Not sure if the cloud area has reached you yet. Unless the cloud evaporates overnight, I can't seem much of a frost for many parts.

As others have said certainly not as nice as was forecast. Hardly any sun at all today!

Yep, you may be right. Hope you’re not though.

The cloud has cleared. It actually came from the east today. Rather annoying. But tomorrow should deliver in terms of sunshine.

Below freezing now. Probably only our second or third air frost of the winter.

Horrible, dull, cold cess pit of a day. Temperature hit a max of 2c and we've been hovering now at 1.5c for an eternity.

The worst winter to this point I've ever experienced. Utter stagnant dross.

At least in December 2015 it was that mild you barely needed a coat.
