A lovely October day, sunshine throughout, brilliant blue skies showing off the autumnal colours to splendour, and light winds - but chilly. Temperature this evening are plunging and a widespread ground frost at least can be expected over the Lake District, with a large are probably seeing an air frost too.

Tomorrow looks preety decent, but deteriorating as the day wears on, but not early enough to spoil the day - so a very good weekend overall on the cards.

Not looking forward to next week - the dreaded south west murk and mist will be back, dank wet cloth coating everything - and unseasonably mild.. not what I like in October.

It’s now the coldest night of the autumn here already, down to 4.8°C; wow.

Roofs white, cars thick with frost and ice.

That's now 2 frosts for October aswell as September.

Last night certainly cold with just 2.5C minimum.  Sunday morning fine and sunny but clouded over during the afternoon so turned out a bog-standard October day with the trees now rapidly changing to autumn colours.  When the leaves have dropped I used to enjoy the smell of leaves smouldering on bonfires but we don't see (or smell) too much of that these days.

Dreary, extremely forgettable day.  Highlight of the day, the ride down to my local Spar.  Yes, that bad.

Thirlmere  is going to be topped up this weekend - probably to the brim?

One to watch in all the usual areas.

Today was a throwback to the amazing summer we've just come out of.  Lovely clear blue skies and very comfortable temperatures with a nice breeze to boot.  Very fleeting though, and the weather will definitely remind us it's nearing mid-October in the run up to the weekend.  Gales, lots of rain...a pattern of things to come?

More like a summer day, cloudless sky from dawn to sunset.  Spent all afternoon sunbathing topless in the back garden which will top-up my Vit D but UV index now too low to actually tan.  Mid afternoon  (2:20pm) Liverpool ATIS reported 21C.

Echos of October 1995, same synoptics, same conditions. A balmy day.

Alas a complete reversal of fortunes on the cards, tomorrow will bring a bout of heavy rain - shortlived, Friday and Saturday promise to bring a deluge of rain to the Lake District, synoptics dare I say it similiar to early Dec 15 - what a flip! - extremes often have a habit of quickly following one another - such as the spring switcharounds from freezing northerlies to balmy southerlies.

Some models are showing cumulative totals over 6” by Sunday , a few raised eyebrows at environmental agency I imagine. locally can be a lot more in usual soak spots such as Honister !!

Drove past thirlmere today. It's going to take a fair swat of rain to brim it, I'd say it's around 12-15 ft below that.

Probs 60 m cubic metres 2 inch should do it

In all honesty it's a good bit lower than I expected given how damp it's been...
