I’ve been stuck under the southern edge of this rain band all day. Now it’s slowly moving southward, I’m getting the heavier precipitation. Yet another washout to add the countless washouts already over the past few months.

Yep pouring down here, been raining since lunchtime with the southern edge permanently stuck about 10 miles south of here. It's barely dried out in the ground since the deluge on the last Fri/Sat of October, won't take much more to flood all the roads again.

Ok, I have to reply to this because it's misleading the entire thread, iv studied radars and the weather all my life, the low pressure that formed along the south side of the main low is pushing east,

Nathan "not a weatherman" Rao of the Express says "Army on Standby as heaviest SNOWFALL hits in next 24 hours" What a bellend!

Reports of snow here over 400m last night. Just topped 37mm here last night the local Derwent/Wye valley is flooding roads in many locations down on the A6, Should make for an interesting drive out shortly.

A6 shut off towards Rowsley/Matlock fine through Bakewell.. 13 bends also shut off, Had a drive through Chatsworth and the Derwent looks absolutely biblical. Lathkill flooded and Reports of Darley Bridge nearly at collapse.

36.4 mm here in the 24 hrs up to 0900 and 55.3 mm for the event as a whole. Off down to Matlock and Cromford shortly to have a  look at the Derwent.

A footnote to the above. 80.1 mm of rain in the first week of November makes it the wettest first week of any month since June 2012 which recorded 89.8 mm.

This is what happened at Ladybower reservoir yesterday, that's why the Derwent valley is having so many problems.

Yet another complete washout for the Midlands on Saturday according to the Euro4 model. Rain and hill snow clearing Wales and South West England by early afternoon but affecting the Midlands for much of the day as the front stalls and pivots with the rain sliding south eastward. Maybe some snow for the hills of the Midlands.

Why would they do that at that time?

Are there structural concerns about the dam when the reservoir is full?

That's my only thought as to its occurrence, emptying to make room for the expected run off, but doing it too quickly.

Crazy scenes here in Matlock and the Derwent valley today, as others have alluded to, the extreme high levels seem to be due to the release of water from an already full Ladybower.

No records broken in Chesterfield, certainly high levels but mainly just flooding in the usual spots that always cause issues.

Wonder if we will see something wintry from this system today. Parts of the Peak District most likely will.

App has changed to heavy snow, but these automated forecasts are very inaccurate.

Dropped to -4c overnight with a lovely white frost over the fields, Currently -2c with thick fog so lit the open fire, fingers crossed to see some snow today.

Radar showing precipitation overhead. Nothing falling from the sky.

Surprising really, looking at this radar snapshot you should have plenty of precipitation ?

UPlenty of precipitation incoming this afternoon from the south, this band is starting to pivot, several hours of heavy rain and at just 3 or 4 degrees here it ain’t going to be very nice.

Edit: looking at the latest BBC forecast, the heaviest of the rain looks like staying further south now ( still bloody cold rain though )
