More info (and for anyone else interested...)

A couple of extra websites

1) for monitoring the birds returning to the UK..

http://ukospreys.uk/arrivals.htm

2) and for more general information on the progress of the attempts to restore Ospreys to the total UK -

https://ww2.rspb.org.uk/community/placestovisit/lochgartenospreys/f/915.aspx

On to todays weather...  Its wet at the moment.

So far today 8mms has fallen and now we have 37mms for the last 7 days, and nearly 50mms for the month so far..

Temp min overnight 6.9C and now at 8.1C.

It is looking like a big change moving in on Saturday with the possibility of snow showers and even more prolonged snow with the probability of more drifting.

Quite incredible for this late in March.

Is it co-incidence or is it associated with the sun which is now on its 12th spotless day in a very low solar cycle?

Paticulalry as we seem to be returning to the sort of solar conditions we had 100 - 350 years ago? Seems like a huge coincidence.

I suspect the we do not know everything we need to, in order to forecast  our weather or predict our climate. :nonono::D:diablo:

Well  lets see what this weekend brings   What an eventful winter this has been  Copious days of snow  3 large falls  ranging from 4inches to a foot  and still maybe one last nod to winter as spring takes hold.   Showers will start to push inland probably from Saturday.  However as we know with showers they can be very hit and miss.  I suppose Sunday is our main cause of interest   Something to keep an eye on

Yes interesting times ahead, the output keeps changing on every run, almost nowhere is free from seeing a covering of snow come Saturday morning, the cold front coming in from the east will turn to snow in the early hours Saturday :yahoo:

Then it's snow showers for Saturday :)

Sunday

ONE TO KEEP AN EYE ON

It's still open to debate but this upper low that's running along the south of the UK is causing heads aches!!! it could well push further North and if so, a spell of snow could have our name on it for Sunday

I now have split feelings. On Saturday I want friends to be able to get here and back, in one case from Derbyshire, so I'd prefer not too much snow then. I don't have anything to do on Sunday, though, so for that day I'll say bring it on!

Yeah, I know I said I'd had enough of winter, but if it's going to happen then I might as well enjoy it.

Those fax charts do look good. Just hope the wind direction is good for the streamer to get to here.

should do okay here I think, gales though, so unlikely complete cover, could it be beefy blizzards like 28th Feb, or more organized like 01 March

2 days only of course but hopefully good, before the fast thaw sets in on Monday

Just out of interest has this half marathon been going over 30 years? It's just that I was discussing with another member some years ago in the historic thread on a topic (think it was titled 'Winters 85-86 in the West Midlands) about a run he did in March 1987 (different year to the title I know) and that there was heavy wet snow in a driving wind.

Not much either side though and a big dirty dry patch not too far away. Hope that's wrong.

Think it was around mid 80s when it began.
