Absolutely lashing it down in Nottingham

I think flood defences are going to be tested greatly over next 48-72 hours

Trent is predicted to reach about 4.3 metres at Nottingham which is high but over a metre less than 2000

but these predictions are increasing hour by hour

The exceptionally wet 6 months has culminated in this potentially catastrophic flooding event

Trees and branches down in places here with bad flooding out of Alport only just got through in 4x4 also along the A6 towards Rowsley. All rivers round here Bradford/Lathkil and Wye are in full flood and with my experience on working on the rivers they will not peak for another day at least. Also noticed the Meto have also extended there wind warning for the Midlands until mid-day tomo. Glad I live on a hill although all the brooks are in full bore..

38mms of rain recorded in the last 36 hours with the most recent burst of heavy rain (squall front?) having just past through.

Temperature has now dropped to 7.4C (now 6.9C)  having been as high as 11.2C earlier on.

Flooding in the usual spots, and care needed on the roads.

Just checked on the Radar and the rain re-intensified right over the Midlands conurbation. (after the Welsh hills)

More rain in the Bristol Channel. Will it travel more to the East? (as forecast for the pm). If not we could be in trouble around here.

The sun is out here in Bewdley! :yahoo: Okay, it's not going to last... but it's such a glorious thing to see after so much rain.

Just had a short heavy hail shower which has now turned to snow on the back edge.

Just started raining here and looking at the radar could be some gusty winds and maybe some hail/sleet/wet snow?

Edit-sleet now

Edit-wet snow now

Stopped.

Some strong gusts in the last hour or so. Stronger than last week, the house is really rattling. Think sustained winds are quite high too.

Not good news for midweek, as reported by Dave Throup of the EA:

Severn really high around Shrewsbury, flooded roads in the town centre, not seen it this high since that succession of floods around 1998-2002 which made them bring in flood barriers (for a couple of places). Lots of smaller rivers flooded as well (Rea Brook, Perry, Tern). More heavy showers today but some sunshine in between them.

Bewdley Bridge has been closed to all traffic, including pedestrians, since this afternoon. Only way to get from one side of town to the other now is via the bypass (A456). River at 5.13 metres and still rising, expected to peak around 5.3m tomorrow. Highest since the 2000 floods (which were worse than 2007 here). Quite a lot more rain this afternoon, though it's calmed down a lot now.

Now being reported by the BBC that the demountable defences on the Wribbenhall (eastern) bank of the Severn here may be breached overnight, and that as a result people are being evacuated. That's the trouble with a long river like this -- the feed-through of rain well upstream can take a long time to make it down here, and then to Worcester. Things are not good in Bewdley tonight.
