-2’C at the moment. A bit surprised there won’t be any wintriness to low levels from frontal systems in the next few days, with so much surface cold. The ground must be frozen to quite deep.

I'd be absolutely amazed. Derby managed a bit of sleet over the last week so will be a bloody miracle to get snow now its warming up

And the 'frozen to quite deep' bit. Where that? On top of the peak district. Derby area just boggy mud everywhere today. Some ice left in the shade but that's about that.

Yes SW wind biggest killer of snow agreed.

Last air frost of -3.2c now makes a total of 20 air frosts this season beating one of the most pathetic winters of 2015-16 at just 17 n total.

That winter I went sledging in snow though. This winter I've seen a little bit of sleet (#stillsulkingaboutlastweek)

The last week of april was the best part of that winter.

I`m struggling to find anything of note during that winter January 15th maybe with a slight covering,no cold spell like this past week.

Really cold this morning when I cleaned the chickens out. Just taken this picture. Snow still here. In my experience if snow remains then there is still more to come. It may be a few weeks away. We shall see.

Current temperature, very spring-like. When do these 'background signals'  do something?

It’s been mild for one day and I’m bored.

I don't mind, the cold spell just gone was probably the crappiest in history, if you can call it a cold spell, no Greenie high, HLB, one of worst winters ever this, even for the christmas pudding

I think we shall all just accept the fact that it looks very unlikely that we’re going to get anything super cold and snowy by the end of winter.

Roll on Summer searching for thunderstorms.

Managed a max of 11.3 °C here today, and -- sacrilege though this may be -- I was really quite happy with it. The sun being out for much of the time had a lot to do with that of course, at least after the fairly heavy rain in the early morning had cleared.

If we get a seriously wintry spell in late Feb/Mar as happened last year then yes I'll be interested, but given a choice of a dusting of slush or seeing the first 15 °C of the year then I'd take the taste of early spring every time.

Currently -0.4 °C btw, so at least it's decently seasonal outside right now!

Friday looks vile. Can’t wait to walk under leaden skies while getting battered and soaked. Oh but mild winter weather is more convenient for all, I am always told

They don't 'always' get snow statistically speaking the Midlands get more snow each year than locations south of the M4, just because we missed out during the last event doesn't mean we will always miss out!
