I’d rather miss any showers until sunset at this point. We need to be as dry and cold as possible for tonight to ensure any falling snow sticks and doesn’t just melt on impact. Not forgetting showers lose intensity after dark too.

Wouldn't matter if/when the dew points go below freezing.

Doesn't matter how wet the ground is. Snow will settle if its cold enough. Seen snow settle many times on absolutely drenched ground after hours of torrential rain.

As have I. But I’d rather the ground was dry to start with, much easier to take advantage of every single flake then. When in, showery setups that can be hit and miss that’s vital, especially when only small accumulations are on offer.

And I've seen snow fall all day long and fail to settle .....     But yes, it's surprising how quickly snow can settle and cover wet ground.

Anyway, moot point down here.  We're not even going to get any rain!

If it’s cold enough snow will settle better to wet road than dry! 9 times out of 10 snow makes everywhere wet before it starts to settle unless it’s a dry easterly type that just blows off everything

Out with the chickens. Can feel the dew point has dropped a lot. Clouded over now. No ppn yet.

Just sleet is the best I've seen so far today, a right wintry mix in looking at the radar.

Hoping the radar will lead to more red/pink later.

I’m thinking by about 7PM onwards it will have done. If it doesn’t, then this will fall on the ‘fail’ side as today’s daytime just isn’t cold enough.

Who's to the NNW of Telford, then? You have precipitation.

Meanwhile, whoever is NW of Telford is in the dry!

Not sure I've ever seen such a stark vertical divide between staying-up and coming-down!

Meanwhile, to the NNE looks pretty dark and precipitating...!

(Conifer pretty much due north, you probably guessed...)

Methicks it was just timing, lunchtime/too marginal, if that band had come through at 7am this morning it would of been snow all the way.

Yeah I agree mate, that’s why tonight is the key period. I’d rather we stayed as dry as possible until this evening.

Can tell it's becoming less marginal. Proper flakes instead of sleety rubbish.

Just had more snow in a heavier shower, still rainy overall though.

Just had about half hour of on/off heavy snow in leicester, took a drive up some of the hills and it had settled but as soon as it stopped it melted nice to see though
