3cm on roads here. A tiny bit more on grass but I can still see the top of the grass so not a lot really at all.

My part measured 9cm on the grass, 14+ cm drifts

This is 9cm on the bin top,, I don't know whether the camera does justice to the depth

One of the things I learnt the last time around a few weeks ago was that when it's this very dry air, like in the Siberian Easterlies, the usual precipitation conversions alter.

Normally if it says 4mm of precipitation, then if it falls as rain, you get your 4mm, but if it falls as normal, frontal, snow, you get about 4cm. Just a simple 1:10 conversion, approximately.
But in this very very dry air stuff, it can alter to 1:30, so your 4mm of precipitation might deliver 12cm of snow.

It isn't set in stone, not always 1:30; just that it can be a lot more than 1:10 - but apparently it's the very dry air in this convective Easterly that makes it accumulate very rapidly.

Oh okay, thank you, that explains it then :)

Ahhhh so you were referencing your own back yard when you told us ALL not to get excited folks. 2-3 inches here, at just a measly 80m ASL. Superb.

Seriously. We have had way more than that here. I do remember you were quite emphatic that most of us would only get a couple of cm's. Seems most of us had a lot more than that I am very surprised you only had two cm's. Have had about 4 inches here along with decent drifts. Main roads are now clear but side roads are icy and have snow on.

I know had slightly shy then 10CM, similar drifts to the last Beast.

Looking at the radar does not seem to be getting much further north than at the moment. May change though.

I concur Matt as well, he or she always sound so pessimistic and IMO brings about a bad influence on this chat.

Hard to say with the drifting. A few cm maybe. Probably the second largest fall of the winter here. Some fairly deep drifts but also some surfaces blown clear by the wind. Snow has melted quite a bit on roads and pavements but little if any melt on other surfaces.

Well this is what I awoke to this morning, way more than what we had 2weeks ago. No thaw at all today just some has gone from the road due to the strength of the wind. Question is... is there more on the way this evening?

That precip is still building north, not a huge amount but maybe enough.

Sounds similar to here, not as much as the 1st beast but then that was over a few days.  Great for mid-March though.

Is it me or are those showers (from SE) on radar looking like they are expanding northwards??

It's me isn't it? :D

Actually managed more here than the last cold spell. Last night the showers all weakened just a few miles to my east though. Happens every time. Little and often seems to be the Stoke way. Biggest fall of the winter was only 10 cm back in December.

I can't fathom the weakening as they had a decent fall in Telford according to this thread.
