The Mexican snow has mostly melted but a bit made it to Cordoba, which is further south than Mexico City. The cold wave has pushed on all the way to Guatemala, which us unusual. I've never seen it get so far South (not that I'm suggesting subzero temperatures or anything like that - just that heat and moisture from the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico usual nullify it before it gets so far).

This snow forecast for Europe is interesting. Dustings to central and eastern areas next week then more widespread and heavier falls the week after, with a foot or more for the Balkans at the more tentative end of the range and maybe half a foot for my friends in hills on the east coast of Italy!

Interesting that Hudson Bay is freezing up in the middle, rather than just working in from edges. I don't recall seeing that before - certainly not to this degree.

Most November snow for 80 years in New York as big snow storm cancels 1400+ flights and delays 8000 before moving on to New England where it is expected to dump up to a foot of snow.

Most November snow for 87 years causes gridlock in Newark.

Not just the UK that can't cope, then!

Hudson Bay starting to freeze over nicely and is now closed to shipping.

Another (small) patch of ice has appeared in the middle of nowhere in the southern half of Hudson Bay. Isolated patches have occurred a few times in the Arctic freeze up this year. It just seems a bit odd, although probably amounts to nothing in the longer term.

That ice you see there is just coastal ice from winds blowing from the cold landmass, nothing unusual about that anywhere really.

If your on about that small blob with the F inside it then it could be just a small patch of colder water that has freezed up a bit quicker? I don't think there is anything too unusual about that really.

Yes. It's the small blob I meant. I've not seen ice form away from coasts like that before and it was highlighted elsewhere when a couple of isolated blobs formed in the Kara sea this year and then we had the intrusion in the northern Hudson Bay a few days back.  I'm not making a big deal of it.  I suppose it might mean Hudson Bay freeze over is a bit quicker than normal if it's not just working in from coasts.

Back again for the 8th winter in a row. ❄️  Love seeing this thread each year as the winter gathers pace. Usually I am back in much earlier but seem to be busier than normal at the moment with work and family. Had a dusting of snow this morning at work here in Stokenchuch (Bucks). Do we know if science has found that concrete proof of a link between the SAI and our winter prospects yet??

Looks pretty poor for Scandinavia surprisingly!

Yes it does.  Apparently some UK trips to Lapland have been cancelled due to the lack of snow!
