A couple of low altitude stations in Scotland already below -1C. There should be some interesting numbers for morning.

Yes in the new thread I've just posted, I am expecting a -6 degrees min tonight, possibly somewhere such as Tyndrum or Rannoch Moor station.

Not sure which thread is best to put this on:

Northallerton and Bedale have just seen freezing rain on the radar. Already below freezing in the valley, rain went off the sea and over the North York Moors, turned to snow on high and then back to rain coming back down but that must be freezing as it falls into the subzero valley bottom on the other side. I hope they've gritted the roads. Black ice is nasty stuff.

Any advance on Shap at -5.8C?

Edinburgh airport. -7C the lowest that I have seen this morning.

The South Eastern Highlands were cold too.  A breeze kept the temps up a bit in the Northern and Western Highlands.

Here we have had a few ground frosts and several days near zero with one at 0.0C but last night was the first air frost with -1C.  I thought that this was quite late but noticed that it was actually one day earlier than last year.

Lowest I can see is Amateur Station at Symington (South Lanarkshire) with -7.7c. Meanwhile here in Meopham, North Kent patchy frost on roofs with our coldest night so far this Autumn with an overnight minimum  1.0c

Minimum of -0.2 last night here in Reading - I think it's our first air frost in October since 2008. Recent years have been remarkably consistent in giving us the first air frost of the season in the second week of November.

I believe there would have been frost last night here listening to people at work mention it. I didn't get up early enough to see it though. Tonight however walking back from work between 8:30 and 9pm there was definitely frost formed on the grass and on car roofs, plus the sting in my cheeks you only get when it's truly cold. Not sure what the temp was though as I've no means of measuring it.

We’ve hit 0c here according to the Met Office station Mount Batten at 3am. I was at a work Highways meeting yesterday and Sunday night was the first gritting of the season for Plymouth the earliest date since 2008.

It was a ground frost here when we went to bed, but woke to the wet and 6 ° C.

Two notably cold nights then for October, nearing -8 degrees, some winters have failed to deliver such lows in most spots.

The fells caught a dusting a snow overnight - pleasing to see.

-1c this morning, second air frost of the season. This October has certainly produced the goods for early season minimums - been under 3c a good handful of times now.
