24.6c back on 19th October 1899.........and the records "appear" to be reasonably well scattered across the timeline, so a hot October, to me anyway, doesnt seem to be a new thing!! (assuming the table is correct of course)

What's also quite assuring is a couple of those records, the 11th (today's date) and the 12th were set in 1978 and we all know how that Winter turned out. Also 1995 (joint with 1921) on the 8th and 1990 on the 14th. Both 1977 and 2017 on the 16th, which were both followed by pretty good Winters and also 1996 on the 23rd and 24th, which was at least followed by a Winter that started ok. There is also 2005 for the 27th and 30th which was followed by a Winter that was somewhat cold (if pretty rubbish for snow here). Just goes to show how contrasts in extremes can flip in such a relatively short space of time and that high temperatures for October doesn't necessarily prevent the succeeding Winter from been cold.

I can't believe how warm it is tonight for mid-October. It's 21:15 in the evening and we're still at 19.4C with a dewpoint of 15.3C.

With the wind and cloudcover, I'd say there's a very good chance of tonight being the warmest October min on record here.

London is forecast to not drop much below 19c tonight with tomorrow pushing towards 25c

Will be interesting to see how many local records go tonight

Looks like the GFS was on the money. It didn't drop below 18.8C all night here. I actually struggled to sleep and it's mid-October!

October record is 19.4C in Aber, Gwynedd set in 1985

18.6c is the England record looks fairly likely that record will be broken

The UK record will be close but nothing official yet from the met office on either

Already 23c in London (over an hour ago when posting this). The temperature record in the UK for October 13th is 25.3c. If we surpass 25.9c, it will be the warmest temperature in the UK on record for this late in the year. In the same year, 29.1c was recorded on April 19th...... 2018 you are absolutely amazing I swear, you don't give up!

Up to 24C in East Anglia already. Going to be interesting seeing how far up the scale we can go today. Must be a chance of the latest recorded 80F this afternoon.

Sun coming out here on S coast now - which bodes well for inland areas later.

The sun has come out here aswell now and we've shot up to 24.0C, so its already the 5th warmest October maximum on record.

Or we could lower the bar a tad - seven successive months of 26C+?:yahoo:

Yeah, still pretty impressive! Not 100% sure what we maxed at in September? 26 c on the Nose I think?

Noted on the Net weather  obs a 26.3c at Donna Nook 1500.

Somewhere surely will hit the 80f today when the final totals are in?

26.3C, wow smashed the date record for the 13th October then. It should stay warm well into the evening/night, until the rain moves in.

Incredible that this same strength of sunshine was during Beast from the East earlier this year. We've experienced the full range of temperatures possible with the sun at this angle.

Also now the warmest day on record in the UK for this late in the year and latest 26c in the year.

Yes I was thinking that earlier. Almost exactly the same position of the sun as on the day where many places did not exceed minus 4C - a 30C difference!

We've been particularly lucky in the Solent region today with it being mostly sunny since 12pm, too, 22C air temperature here but feeling hot in the sun.

We hit 24.8C in the end, making it the 4th warmest October maximum in 38 years of records. What's remarkable is all of the other three days are on the 1st and 3rd of the month, so to hit this high on the 13th was previously unthinkable. We haven't gone above 20C any later than the 16th before and that happened for the first time in 2017!

Its also the first time we've ever had 4 consecutive October days above 20C. The previous high was three consecutive days in 2005 and 2011.
