I think the record is 23.9 deg on 3rd/4th August 1990 in Brighton

That’s true, I was wondering about other people’s warmest recorded

Surely it's been hotter than that some nights? You get at least one night a year when it feels like you're in a furnace.

More noticeable up here cause exceptionally mild nights are very rare, I’d say a minimum over 15.C is uncomfortable but that’s usually a typical summer in London, so far this year for me the warmest night Ian 14.8.C, last year it was 17.4.C.

A low of 20.7C was supposedly recorded in Leeds on 20 August 1987, besides that no lows above 20C have ever been recorded. Been very close a number of times though. Even during the hottest spells, we cool down pretty quickly at night.

What I have noticed over the years is it's not the outdoor temp at night that makes it warm indoors but how much sun there has been, I think Weather-history (Kevin) has mentioned that it's been something like the sunniest May to July period on record in NW England and this has had a notable impact on indoor temps too. Without any air conditioning the spare bedroom is around 25-27C all the time. Unusual for here and shows how much solar heating there has been for weeks.

Upstairs is always much warmer than downstairs, hot air rises, this summer has been the best for warming downstairs in 2 decades.

Old stone houses take a lot of warming up otherwise.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
