From memory 1985 was worse than 1988 and looking at the records seems to bear this out.......also seems that generally 1985,86 and 87 were worse than 1988...1988 had a stinker of a July ..however both June and August were fairly average..in fact June 1988 was pretty dry.

Here in the pennines there was little difference in any of them overall but they were almost equally poor in different ways.I always think 1985 was worse, maybe because it was the first really poor summer I remember in my adult life and shocking compared to 1983 and 1984 that we had just had which were both better than any summer since except 1995.

June 1988 was the warmest since 1976 at the time and there wasn’t a warmer one until 2003 in my records.

Summer 2007 was worst in my opinion than 2012.

I just remember summer 2007 (my GCSE year) constantly raining and never stopping. Our school hall flooded! Temperatures were struggling to get into the low 20's throughout June and July although there was a slight warm period at the start of August but that was it. I just hope 2019 isn't going this way as it certainly has the same vibe to it.

2012 was horrendously wet but days were more warmer and summery than 2007 when it was clearer I seem to remember.

I think August 88 was slightly better and sunnier. July was dull all month.

as you dont like the heat i would have thought 1995 would have been a shoe in for one of the worst summers?
