I am having trouble with the new image system.  I usually access the site via my iPad and in the past I have always been able to view the images on other posts, and I have always been able to save images to the tablet, then upload to my posts using the 'attach files' route.  At the moment most of the images on other posts are now showing as a box with a question mark, and cannot be opened, including all of Frosty's images.  Summer Sun's images are visible, however.  When I tried to post this morning I found that the only image posting options available now are:  'Insert existing attachment' or 'Insert image from URL'.  Excuse my lack of IT knowledge, but does this mean i have to save the link to every image and paste these into posts in future?  Or are my current issues simply due to the ongoing work being done on the uploader?

As per the announcement on every page (big red box!), we're moving/rebuilding the file system today, so the uploader is switched off and existing uploads won't show:

We're moving and rebuilding the upload system at the moment, and while that's taking place we have switched off the uploader. This should hopefully only take a few hours today and as soon as it's completed we'll switch the uploads back on.

While this is ongoing, old uploads and images are also not visible on the forums.

Thanks Paul.  I saw the current announcement about images uploading/not displaying but was not sure how long this had been effective.  Some other changes occurred while I was away recently and I thought I should let you know about my difficulties in case they were unrelated!  Good luck with the rebuild!

Tried to post a link to an image on my Facebook page but after entering the URL in the "Insert image from URL" box it turns pink and nothing happens. (Opera, Win 7 Pro)

Facebook doesn't allow linking images like that I don't think. You just need to copy and paste the url of the post with the image into your post and the system will embed it.

Thanks Paul,

I added my image to my Flikr account and just added the URL to my post and, et voilà, it worked!

Excellent, yes that'll work too - the embedder can do that with most of the social networks, image sharing sites etc.

Not sure what you mean SS.

And to answer before anyone wonders - the profile pics are being moved over currently, so will show again within the hour.

Test

Ok, all I get is a little box that says

"Insert other media" and a drop down arrow

Click box and I get

"Insert existing attachment"

No other options, no editor, nothing.

Also, since upgrade some posters names on some post, not all, are appearing double and overlaid.

Weird!

Tablet running KitKat.

Was it intended to block externally hosted avatars as well as images in posts?
Things look pretty messy at the moment.
Edit - not sure they are externally hosted now, just some have been lost/missing/changed URL I think.

So that means the option to upload pictures is back? At the moment, that option is still missing (opened a tab incognito to bypass cache)

testing......ok, so to post an image on the forum, instead of posting directly from my pc, the image needs to be in my gallerys first....seems straight forward.....just a longer way round to achieve the same result

You can still upload direct to the forum as before, the use of the gallery was just a temporary option while the system was being rebuilt.
