Looking out the window now from Chesterfield and there is fairly frequent flashes that are lighting up the clouds towards the East I think, and also hear the odd distant rumble

yeah the lightning count for that night was huge - wish i could've been in bournemouth. still had a great view from oxford, even without taking a direct hit

It's the best storm I've encountered in the UK, i have encountered a supercell in the USA which was very intense and triggered a weather warning from the weather channel. Still I don't think that beat the Bournemouth cell, far less lightning from it. Romania is the only time I've had to run for cover from a thunderstorm, leaving a forest after volunteering into a clearing around 3km walk to the nearest village where our accomodation was but the entire horizon was a thunderstorm, we walked on for a bit until some lightning passed over my head into a nearby field and we ran for cover into a half built house until it passed over getting soaked in the process. There wasn't much taller than us out there which made it a bit scary.

If I recall correctly MUCAPE was a fair bit higher that night so I wouldn’t expect quite the same degree of spectacular. Nonetheless it is still very high tonight.

While I write the humidity (perhaps unsurprisingly as the temperature falls) is rocketing here....gone from very warm to really quite uncomfortable all of a sudden. And I’ve just realised it’s Thor’s Day which always seems to be good omen.

Good luck @rynmorgn hope it holds together for you - looks a peach on radar.

Yes seeing the odd flash looking east from my study window. It's quite obscured by mid-level cloud but nice to see the energy still there.

Moon glowing proudly at the moment, sky a little hazy and the air dead calm. Sticky doesn’t do it justice either, thinking I’m going to get eaten alive. Initiation time not too far away now.

Might be too far east for anything tonight, but I’m not giving up by any means

I thought I heard thunder, this confirms it. I am hoping for some storms tonight to set me up before I drive east tomorrow.

See the same strikes out towards Sheffield now the sun has gone down and the skies are darker, on average it was 1 strike every 2 minutes. Radar showing precip over us on the last few passes but it's clear skies overhead.
