If you could be anywhere inside the red ring on the image below from about 10.30pm where would you choose?

South of Leeds, you have the options of fast-travel across the compass (N,S,E,W) with the motorways. Not too many hills around there but if you can find a open-top car park for the vantage point you'd have a good viewpoint too.

Still stiflingly hot here in Chelmsford.

Breeze starting to pick up slightly, and light cloud cover drifting in from the south. Just south of the amber warning here, but certainly feels like something stirring. Have put the plant pots under cover or I think they'll get a bashing later.

Never thought I'd utter these words, but I cannot wait for the rain.

Edit: It is no longer raining. The ground is barely wet.

This is all perfect timing for me as I’m about to leave work. Hopefully they will intensify

Have the day off today as I'm preparing to go to Dorset for a week tomorrow. Lovely hot day again here in North Herts.

Glad to see things have kicked off on the south coast. Will have to put the sunnies on and look south in a bit to see if there are any other developments.

Thrips. More commonly known as thunderflies, thunderbugs, stormflies... Maybe they're a good omen for storm-chasing?

Bloody hope so! I was stupid enough to wear a yellow and white striped t-shirt and they seemed to love it.

Changed to a dark grey one I had in the car and it seems to have warned them away from me!

Just having a stroll around Louth at the moment. Very hot and sunny. Thanks to Glenn I’ve identified a nice lay-by with excellent southerly views on the A157 ⚡️ Hoping for some explosive storms later!

Lightning strike showing on radar just off the coast of Southend. I think it’s a false return but I can’t be sure. Really, I need something to form due south of me to be in with the best chance.
