Aha, you just on the edge of the Sid Vicious cloud...heading for Bridport as it seems right now..

A few showers starting to drift towards here but seems as expected the heavier ones are further west at the moment.

It certainly is.  A very heavy shower just passed through and lasted about 25 minutes (perhaps 20 mm) - moving north-north west so will be over Exeter right now. Some hail and lightning flashes every 20-30 seconds (some fork) and quite load claps of thunder too. Squally gusts but it's stopped now and is calm again.  More like a squall line. No more time now - so a selection of charts. David

Could have done with the rain an hour or so ago, might of helped put out the fire quicker at the tropicana in town, gutted that's gone up in smoke, glad nobody was injured though

So, no more free drinks, I guess.

This last lot of showers has missed us, again, only a few dribs and drabs since dark.  Yes, forecast keeps changing for tomorrow, guess it's a matter of wait and see in the morning.

The forecast I saw earlier this evening kept mentioning how uncertain tomorrow is.

Why did things kick off so quickly earlier this evening? A late Autumn equivalent of plume storms firing on the South Coast soon after sunset and heading quickly inland perhaps. Or more fuelled by the sea temperatures in contrast to the land? Certainly a very impressive rate of development from 16.00 in South Devon like we see sometimes see from around 22.00 in May-August.

There's some pretty good convective parameters for parts of the South & Southwest. Reasonable surface-based CAPE, steep lapse rates, and some deep layer sheer. The forcing is from an occlusion. Imagine that it was at the height of Summer?!

Showers been building right over us and moving north, north east all afternoon. One being around 4 this afternoon. A few large hail stones on the window, nothing more. yet friends in torquay and newton Abbott reporting full on heavy hail, thunder and lightning! Another heavy shower hit here about an hour and half ago.

Morning All the heavier rain seems to be hanging in the channel at the moment, currently 6.5C, and 1.5mm of rainfall. With and apparent E to W flow I’m not yet convinced too much will come ashore!

Dull and wet with heavy rain at times for most of the morning so far but looks a bit brighter than it was at the moment. 8.5°C

In fact it’s just stopped raining as I posted that although it probably won’t last long

You just got to love November in the Uk, mmm, mmm..

Although we seem far short from any recent predispositions from the MetO, no I'm not bashing just questioning.

A rather uninspiring day all round today, including the weather. Dull all day with rain on and off although only ended up with 2.8mm. Reached 8.9°C.

Should add that rain total will change as it’s raining again now and if anything it’s heavier than it’s been all day.
