I think it’s because everyone who has a smart phone has become a roving reporter and can get something posted up on social media in minutes for the world to see so we can get a better picture of where there has been a weather event almost as it’s happening.

Ha! Is true - journalists beware

Boys and girls out west.... Is it brightening up out there?

It looks like some of this muck is trying to shift on Sat24. Admittedly, we've got the most to lose.

Foggy morning here and the horns were in good voice early.
A hazy grey morning here and only 17.4c
No rain here since yesterday morning and early afternoon spell that gave us 2.3mm

No change here, as predicted earlier we are likely to be about the last place in the country for the greyness to clear (if it does at all today)

Sun has been out here for the last couple of hours, serious amount of convection going on, especially to my West, seems like a line/cloud street with huge billowing tops to it all, base is very dark, very warm and humid. Looks a darn sight more convective here now than it did at anytime yesterday.

Just looked on Sat24 and it is very evident where the mouth of the Seven is, a large line of cloud orientated NNE to WSW

Really looks as though next week is starting to look very disappointing for many despite what on the surface of things look like pretty good 500 / 850mb charts. At this time of year with 850's at 10-11c I'd expect in good sunny spells London to be 27-29C with many other parts of E+W hovering around 24-27C, with the exception of Sunday which look like being the best day currently in the next week an easterly feed looks like drawing in huge amount of haar, fret, clag and low cloud from the north sea. I would be surprised if some places down the east coast into East Anglia see almost zero hours of Sun through the working week. Things will be better for those along the south coast west of the IOW, down in the South West and parts of Wales.

Suddenly got very warm and humid, sun was out for a while, now cloudy with the line of showers passing to the west of us, just.  About to dump on Yeovil....

They seem to be shifting in a bit more of an Easterly direction, so you might get caught yourself Lyn-M.

Whatever they're doing, the Eastward movement is helping to clear this muck above us, albeit very slowly. Sunshine, convection and a near miss is far more preferable to this rubbish.

Just rinse and repeat. Sun finally breaks through after 10hours of trying too only heat up the land and within half an hour draws the fog back inland - infuriating!!!

Came bk from Yeovil about an hour ago, it was dry when we left but by the time we got to the 303 the road was like a river! Apparently the lanes in South Petherton are flooded too.

*jaffa cakesing it down in Ilminster for the last hour now*

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
