Me thinks this is a matter of time before we see our first lightning strike over the region. Especially since temperatures will continue to rise and the introduction of more unstable air from the SE.

Looking increasingly pessimistic for my neck of the woods. Not being a doom-sayer, just observing the stubbornness of this dross and the lack of any apparent activity

Our clag too is breaking now revealing bigger/taller clouds than we seen all week. I do hope something does make it to us later. If after dark it can miss us completely as long I can see/hear them!!!

Just regarding the Met Office Amber warning area, which took me by surprise given that Central Southern England seemed more at threat with Severe storms than The South West according to model outputs earlier. (Would love to see their models right now)

But this area has caught my eye. Rapid clearance of any clouds during recent frames indicates the main area for potential IMO. With steering flows being NNW, this puts everyone in the Amber Warning area at risk. Possible good call by the Met? We shall see.

Well good call so far, as very heavy rain is now falling here in the south West .

We’ve just had a thunderstorm wanting issued to the airfield. The most recent TAFs for the area:

Exeter PROB30 TSGR

Bristol PROB40 TSGR

Cardiff PROB30 TSGR

PROB40 is the highest probability you can get on a TAF, so smile if you are in Bristol, and cross your toes

All TEMPO so ‘lasting less than one hour’

And there we have our first sferic just North of Brighton. The coverage of showers are increasing by the minute it seems on the radar.

It's not even 2 o'clock and beefy showers are already developing ? How can you claim it's a disappointment already?

Suddenly we have lift off with the showers across the southern UK, they just need to become electrified now.

Pessimistic about the storm potential on the coast here though it must be said, but I won't throw in the towel until the last of the crud for this lot passing over goes through. One of those days you feel where things could rapidly change if the sun actually makes an appearance.

Not much has changed over the past hours... Forecasts were predicting as early as 6am and now its 2pm.  It is quite a disappointment.

I disagree NC...as stated in an other post and indeed on most hi-res modelling, from roughly now onwards is the time to sky/radar watch
