Yup, simply not enough of a trigger to give the storms that spark they need to get going for the moment. I don't think we will get anything this evening here in Southampton. Perhaps a chance in the small hours from storms exiting France though . Arguably the prospects for tomorrow look better then today.

The meto forecast radar only has isolated storms for suffolk and cornwall for the rest of today. Much more widespread threat for southern and central England for the early hours and tomorrow morning.

Another factor this evening has been the encroaching anvils over southern England from the French storms - multiple factors against storms, also those storms in France are surface based looking at local obs so likely to die quickly once they dip there toes in the channel!

Just got back from Snowdonia after climbing to the summit yesterday. Was quite the challenge with thunder, lightning, torrential rain and gusty winds, but was worth the sore body today. Managed to capture a couple of cloud shots but only clouds. Mammatus Sunday Morning and some other nice cloud formation which was moving along with a storm later in the day.

I has been cloudy here this morning and lunch time and the clouds are now starting to break up a bit not clear skies yets over here in Warminster in Wiltshire

How does a storm become elevated?

can a surface storm become elevated in any way, or is it a result of frontal forcing?

Huge tower appeared due West of me over E London blocking out the sun. Not electrified though. Yet.

Edit: It is now! How quickly these cells are going from nothing to electrified shows the energy available today.

Am seeing increasingly frequent IC bolts and regular thunder. It has a huge new updraught on it. Given where it’s heading this could make the news.

Darn it, some lower level muck has got in the way, can barely make out the anvil now. Haven’t seen any lightning, but possibly heard a couple of very faint rumbles from it.

Still hearing regular thunder but notably the updraught is tilting with the upper southerly winds. This has every chance of turning severe. The updraught is looking still very robust indeed
