I've  not seen anything form as fast as today's storms have in this country.

Activity picked up to the ese of us on the 2nd line and I can see the anvil from that cell. That should brush the eastern side of Sheffield south Rotherham and possibly northern Sheffield if it survives that far..

Well the cell that formed near me in the Thames Estuary decayed as quick as it appeared. Thought we were onto something there. Ah well.

No worse than heavy fog. I mean when have you been crushed by Fog????

Fat lady warming up here. Activity beginning to split to the south of us which is pretty well the rule of thumb these days.

To the far north I believe I can see the edge of the spreading/thinning anvil from the Midlands storms! It has spread to about Gloucester and the satellite shows nothing between that and me.

We did had 2 thunderstorms yesterday evening with quite frequent thunder/lightning (more visible from the 2nd storm as it was night then), but it was nearly all sheet lightning and they passed through quite quickly.
I can't complain really, but it's hard not to be a little jealous of today's storms and last night in the SE.

Day 2 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Mon 28 May 2018 - 05:59 UTC Tue 29 May 2018

ISSUED 19:23 UTC Sun 27 May 2018

ISSUED BY: Chris

...MONDAY DAYTIME...

Southern England and Wales

Unlike the last few days, there will be support for surface based convection on Monday afternoon across southern England and parts of Wales. Surface based CAPE values in excess of 1,000 J/kg will develop by the afternoon and along with weak surface convergence give way to thunderstorm development by mid-afternoon. Initiation will likely begin aided by topography in Wales, and shortly after along the convergence zone near the south coast of England around 14-15z. Very weak shear and steering flow aloft will mean that thunderstorms will be slow moving and pulse variety, but could regenerate over the same areas giving the risk of localised flooding. Spot totals of over 50mm of rain are possible. A few funnels are possible near the weak convergence along the south coast and heavier showers could produce some small hail <1.5cm.

...MONDAY NIGHT...

Kent

Mid-level instability and associated elevated convection may stream out of northern France and the Low Countries overnight, particularly into the early morning hours on Tuesday, giving the potential of some lightning across extreme southeastern England.

The storm cell to the south of here decayed in the last 20mins but there is still the storm cell moving north from Milton Keynes, might hit us, might not.

What will tomorrow bring higher temperatures and higher humidity forecast 30c across SE England or unless its changed.

What an interesting day the UK has had.

Looks like it's trying to make its mind up. Go explosive or die?

I don't think it's done though.

I think that's it today personally, would be nice if a cell like Northampton popped up but it doesn't look to be happening. Still only May though I guess

Calling bust for here today. It really tried to break through the cap but in the end it just couldn’t. I’m pleased for those of you who did get a storm today, and hope everyone in the worst hit areas around Birmingham stayed safe.

I think I jinxed it having seen lightning towards the Buxton direction in the past 20mins and grabbed the camera for some videoing. As soon as I did that everything just stopped.

If you've had a look at the wind profile today you will see this afternoons storms have been due to a convergence zone....
