It's calmed down in Brum, with some blue sky making an appearance, but can also see towers going up on the south East horizon. Will have to see if it comes our way or skirts more northward.

Finally raining here, mean looking skies to the east with strikes now detected near Newark

sferics picking up again around Ashbourne and Derby, I can see the main cell now looking like a wall of dark cloud with some embedded TCus emerging through the layers.

Been out in the garden listening to the thunder and seeing the odd flash. Wasn't expecting anything so a nice surprise.

This is really weird.

It's so still and eerie as if it wants to go bang. Precip has increased lately just South of us. Lightning near Derby looks to be moving a North and maybe East?

Wonder if my corner of London will be in for another round tonight. Stuff formed just to my east earlier before moving north that was giving some good rumbles

Well, that was an EPIC couple of hours!

Constant rolling thunder from 16:30 to 18:45, with some huge CG. My wife and I decided to head out in the car to find a good vantage point, and we ended up in Cosford. It was biblical there, and the main crossroads was under three feet of water. The scale, frequency, and sheer noise of the lightning and thunder was unbelievable.

Found myself in a similar situation when I tried to core punch a cell near Coventry. Ended up getting stuck in rugby; the rain there was intense with hail around marble size. Lots of flooding made it hard to find a route of town to keep chasing. As it stands, I'm watching this line of storms cycle from a vantage point nearby. Might drop south east or see what's on the other side.

Can see the edge of that Hertfordshire cell from here and it looks incredible.

Closer to home, it definitely looks and feels like it’s building up to something but with little luck so far

The 2nd line has produced a single strike recently but not really holding out much hope. There's also a slight rainbow to the east from the remains of an old anvil. Cloud breaking up again after briefly looking like there may have been a small chance. I can also see where the gap is going to form which we will no doubt funnel through.

Can't imagine a journey on the M1 from Leicester to Luton being a pleasant drive, some seriously bright echoes on the rainfall radar there.

It all seemed to spring up in half an hour which is incredible. Northampton must be having quite the storm!

There's a few stations around the W-Midlands that have recorded between 70 and 90mm of rain today.

Estofex had that nailed on with the Level 2 warning for high rainfall totals
