I can already see the lightning strikes looking south down the Goyt Valley towards the Midlands, another 2 hours or so and it'll be over us in the Peak District.

It seemed like it was calming down but we've just had a huge cloud crawler right over the area .

Well, I'm calling it a night. I'm going to bed now. I seem to be in a very good spot for tomorrow so no need to go out of my way, fingers crossed it'll be like tonight has been.

Severe storms around Birmingham for past 2 hours, very frequent lightning (3 or 4 flashes per minute), quite incredible. Think it’s possibly starting to ease/move north now.

Another plane for Birmingham just flew over at 6000 feet (Malaga to BHX - Info from flight tracker) then a really bright flash of lightning straight after , Not sure if plane was hit ?

Struggling to sleep, thought I'd have a quick peek on the radar wow!! There has been so much more further north than expected so I'm happy for you guys ☺.

Other thing that has impressed me is how quickly the cell over Le Havre has exploded!

Just seen a few MAN inbounds hurriedly going in via Buxton/Macclesfield direction, quite eery watching their navigation lights with the lightning lighting up the clouds in the distance. The sun is just beginning to rise here now making the far-away strikes harder to see but if the sferics hold along it's current path then another hour and a half it'll be overhead. Camera is all charged and ready.

Just heavy rain here now .

If I look out to my Northeast I can see distant flashes from the storm over Tamworth with the odd distant rumble .

First proper night storm we've had in ages and a superb light show to go with it :good:

Still plenty of energy feeding this system even at nearly 4am, a cell to the south of Derby for example in the past 10 minutes has just exploded. The sun should be up in the next hour raising the temps again for the morning and later on, anyone in the Peaks and Manchester might just get a unexpected morning wake-up call. I'm still remaining optimistic because so far these cells have managed to hold on up into the north Midlands.

Reminiscent of 2 years ago, everything was looking good for us here and just as the sun was coming up it all died a death, can't complain however as i've seen some distant lightning stikes as they were over Swandlicote and south Derby. Going to catch a few winks of sleep and see what the forecast has in store for tomorrow afternoon.

Distant thunder heard here just now but the whole thing has fallen apart, just as it reaches the region...as it does every single time1

I saw the exact same thing and the plane was not hit, as a saw the actual lightning fork itself, I was looking in the right direction at the time and there was one almighty fork lightning that bent right through the sky, but still would of been a very scary time for people on that planes as it was a very close call.

WOW! What a fracking storm

It's been a been a lonnnnnng time since July 2013 but the hills finally got one and yeah it was worth it!

Tried to take photos but failed jumping between windows to my south, west and then north so opted to take video, it was everywhere forking and so bloody good

Will post vid and/or stills after uploading IF they are worth it *nods* so gutted to watch on Blitzo that all systems died out as soon as dawn broke but hey maybe and hopefully the sparks will fly over the next few days for us all

Morning all

Just been out with the dog, and I saw this to my south! Looks like it’s the top of the storm that’s currently working it’s way up the Marches. ?️

The main risk is meant to hit me (hopefully hit me), later today! ⛈️

As always, good luck to everyone with this today.

On a 24 hour boating challenge in brummie,  the lightning between 2.30 and 4 was awesome.

Can' believe how fast the storms are shooting up to the south

Had a lovely light show last night and it's great to see some further north have joined in the fun overnight as well!

I've just been woken by more thunder, although infrequent. Hopefully another good day ahead!

Woke up after a very short sleep, opened the blinds to torrential rain with the skies having a threatening look to them.

Same here just now. Think I heard faint rumble too about 10 minutes ago.
