As others have said, summer 2018 has been a classic.

We’ve recorded 15 days of 30c+ here in London, today will make it 16 with highs of 32c/33c forecast and there is every chance that Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday could hit 30c. If that happens it would take the number of days hitting 30c+ up to 20. Incredible!

For comparison, Heathrow recorded 21 days of 30c+ in 1976 so we’re closing in on matching that figure.

Regardless of how August turns out (and lets be honest it isn't looking bad at the moment), this summer will definitely go down as one of, if not the best, especially if you include how May turned out beforehand.

So far we've had (using the Metoffice UK-wide figure):

May - sunniest on record, 23rd driest, 2nd warmest
June - 6th sunniest, 9th driest, 3rd warmest
July - 7th sunniest, 19th driest, 2nd warmest

To get such consistent warm, dry and sunny weather for three consecutive months in this country is exceptional. If people aren't satisfied with this summer then nothing will ever measure up.

A good August. That will measure up.

It was already 22C before 8am here, but then it became cloudy and it's basically hovered around the same temperature since then with some thunderstorms in the vicinity. All a bit 'meh' to be honest. I really wouldn't be surprised if the more changeable weather next week gave us more sunshine than this week has.

Summer 2018 is below 1995 in my estimations, and the recent temperature divide between the SE and everywhere else is more reminiscent of 'meh' summers like 2010 than classic summers like 1995 or 1976. August 2018 could actually end up very similar to July 2010.

Summer 1995 didn't get going until July though. June 1995 was cool, it only reached 20C here on 5 days and had nearly as much as rainfall as the entire summer of 2018 so far. This year its been very good right from the start of May.

True, but the overall lack of proper heat has made it feel a grade below to me - and if August doesn't deliver much then it will definitely taint the memory of this summer in my mind (especially if large regional divides keep occurring - that was easily the worst aspect of summer 2010).

Very true. We sometimes forget that June 1995 was relatively cool. It was only the last 3/4 days of that month when it became hot.

How do they work out the driest? It says June is 9th driest. In a lot of the SE (including myself) we had no rain in June at all. Do they add up all weather stations in the UK?

Absolutely wonderful here. managed 30.3°C with the humidity hovering around 50%. 4th day this Summer of a 30+, that's quite rare in these parts.

I'm not sure they calculate UK-wide figures but surely you must realise that there is a lot more to the UK than just South East England.. the fact that it was rainless or nearly rainless for parts of the SE is irrelevant to the wider UK picture.

Classic Lakeland August weather now, low cloud, heavy showers, drizzle, warm and muggy. It has been a very good summer so far and with May being so nice I'm more than satisfied this year. Constant sunshine in May, prolonged heat in June and drought in July. Fingers crossed we can do the equivalent in winter in the coming years!

1995 had a lot of heat in may though, here we didnt get going until late june because of low cloud off the north sea for much of may and june.

Its hard to compare this summer with 95. Has memories made us think it was better? Or worse?

This year though has largely lacked much of a southerly flow. Ok the southeast has fared very well but i dont think we have up here. In 95 we here had 11 days of 25c or higher... consecutive.. not had a run like that this year, falling short at 8 days.

25c is my benchmark for heat, taken because the old temp signs on bbc weather maps used a red background for 25c plus.

May had some cold nights 2.4c min and an ground frost on the 17th,but I mentioned that before.

The end gave a great monsoon which will never be forgotten and goes in my record books.
