Weather Guilt-Tripping - Please don't suggest people are selfish for enjoying or even looking forward to a certain weather type. Everyone has different weather preferences, but since none of us can control the weather, no-one should be made to feel guilty or foolish for liking it.

The time it kicks in is down to the low level wind flow direction and strength. A syronger off shore flow will prevent an early onset of the sea breeze. Often difficult to work this out though for any one location.

I did a fair amount of work on this situation when working many years ago.

Yes most of this week its kicked in about midday giving the temperature time to rise to 27-29C then once kicked in the temp usually hold about 1C below the max.

I don't know which I'd prefer, Heathrow's 33.1C at 15:00 but with a 12.3C dewpoint, or the 29.2C we have here now with a 19.1C dewpoint.

Probably the former, its awful today!

Grr. Yet another 29 °C max by the look of it. If anyone in SE England wants to give away one of their degrees, I'll happily receive it! :D

We did reach 30C in the end thanks to long clear periods that developed in the past 2 hours.

Yup they are also going against their own text forecasts. I'm assuming those website text forecasts are automated and the video forecasts are more fine-tuned and accurate? We'll see if they back down from it in their evening forecast.

They were based on the UKV which was showing 37c, but that's no longer the case and max temps are likely to be 34-35c.

Still looking like the first week of August will be the peak in terms of temperature away from the South East.  This is the ensemble forecast for Cardiff for example:

gefsens850Cardiff0.png

...well that's no fun for this heat-sensitive couple in Newport. :(

...it might be the peak in terms of temperature in the SE too, if this run for Norfolk is any guide?!? I mean, the GFS Operational line literally threatens to break the scale...

Fine by me nice and pleasant overnight here

So why post it then?  Its not relevant to where you live, or are you just enjoying the fact that a lot of people struggle to sleep in this heat?

More of a typical Sly plume here today but without the thunder plenty of cloud hopefully tomorrow will deliver on that front.

Wind turned westerly this afternoon cooling it down more again.

One big change in the extended beeb forecast is they've removed 'hot' for 'warming up' in the south

Next week

Fresher to start
Rain at times - especially in north and west
Warming up again in the south

Met Office website map shows the 35C contour in East Anglia at 1pm, at 4pm temps are down just a notch as thunderstorms break out.. so a pretty 'fun' day there on these charts!

Presumably this is why they suggest 37C could be reached especially if the thunderstorms hold off long enough.

Time for a moan! Don't you just love the fact that one of the few nights with cloud cover so far this summer is likely to coincide with the lunar eclipse? Grrr!

I don't know why they have contours for 20 and 25C but then nothing for 30C.

Yes I've wondered that before. Maybe an unintentional omission from the maps that hasn't been corrected?
