I have diagnosed RSAD,had it since my late twenties. Its basically near enough the same as SAD. Trust me i think of the those effected by SAD,it is awful,i know. Its more than enduring weather, much more. Hope you enjoy it though,i know many do.

Well I didn't know that. Now your hatred of summer makes more sense to me.

Genuine question - is there a certain point when things get better for you?

For me honestly it's more a reduction of daylight when i feel less stressed I know this sounds weird, yes the weather plays a point but it's the longer daylight hours i find hard to cope with.Sleep comes a problem and hot weather just compounds it hence my hatred of this type of weather, the having to have aircon at home, the moaning on and on about it, Sorry for that by they way,but i doubt i can ever change that bit!.  Pity the only job i've ever been good at doesn't really help at all!

Your post struck a chord, the phrase "you'll live" means a lot. Without 2 very close friends(one sadly no longer with us) neither would i have been in 1998. Depression comes in so many forms, thankfully i'm still fighting it....and this blinking weather!

My mum suffers from depression so I understand what you're saying, it's not something you get over. The year is flying by anyway so the shorter days will be here before you know it.

It’s amazing how the weather can affect our moods so strongly. I do sometimes envy those who seem to blithely go through life, without a care for the weather. I find winter very depressing and hard work in the UK, so I always await summer eagerly and hope for as much sunshine as possible. It does wonders for my wellbeing, but when summer is cloudy and windy, I feel like utter rubbish and am miserable and moody.

I personally find that good weather makes me happy, but poor weather doesn't necessarily make me unhappy. Long periods of dull weather like March/early April this year were quite trying, but I think more from a 'non weather' point of view than the fact it was cloudy so often. I'm fortunate enough to be able to deal with heat no problem, and most degrees of cold - I love the cold in winter but I think I prefer the heat in summer.

I do really feel for SAD sufferers though, and anybody who has to put up with a seasonal condition of any sort like hay fever. Also didn't realise RSAD was even a thing - you learn something new every day!

For me it's more about humidity and 25C+ heat which means i don't tend to mind it in May/June but tend to strongly prefer a 2017 style collapse.

The past 2-3 weeks before yesterday were about as far as i like to go, it had started to feel a bit humid more or often than not.

Level 2 heatwave alert issued for all regions in England except the north west and north east

Current watch level: Level 2 - Alert and Readiness

Issued at: 09:11 on Wed 18 Jul 2018

There is a 60 % probability of heatwave conditions between 0000 on Friday and 0000 on Sunday in parts of England.

It will become increasingly humid through the end of this week with very warm nights across much of England. South Yorkshire, the Southeast, London, East Midlands and parts of West Midlands, eastern parts of the Southwest, and East Anglia, are likely to see good periods of sunshine, contributing to hot daytime temperatures. As a result thresholds are likely to be just met in these areas. There is a very low risk of thunderstorms developing in the south and east. Northern areas are likely to be somewhat cloudier, with sunny intervals and occasional showers possible Friday and Saturday, and although it will still be very warm in sunnier intervals in these areas, thresholds are unlikely to be met. This alert may be extended into Sunday and Monday, with the areas included being kept under review.

An update will be issued when the alert level changes in any region. Alerts are issued once a day by 0900 if required and are not subject to amendment in between standard issue times. Note that the details of the forecast weather are valid at the time of issue but may change over the period that an alert remains in force. These details will not be updated here unless the alert level also changes, the latest forecast details can be obtained at the following link: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/#?tab=map

Friday is looking like a potential stinker of a day here, really hope any rain fizzles out before getting this far, or at least holds off until the evening.

Best summer I've ever experienced in the UK thus far, endless sunshine, comfortable t-shirt warmth pretty much since mid-may and Mediterranean style yellow grass, been amazing for doing outdoor activities, no sign of it ending either.

Did anyone see this summer coming? Its reminding me a bit like winter 09/10 - a prolonged cold winter that never brought any real mild weather at all, surprised many.. but the ominous very wet mild November was perhaps a sign something unusual was about to happen.

This year we had the odd end Feb/early march period, and the extreme easterlies - again anomalous and a sign perhaps things not normal this year. Indeed since then the atlantic has been in almighty slumber, 5 months now..

Rationale / reasoning for this summer from 'experts' would be welcomed, effect of SSW, la nina background state, now moving into El Nino, the cold SST's to our NW,,, what is causing it?

Big question - when will it break, any signs emerging of a change... it will come.

I don't think I can ever recall seeing the grass and vegetation quite so scorched and tinder dry. Personally, I'm enjoying it and want to see how long it can go on. Even the nights have not been that oppressive. It does make me wonder what will happen when the rain finally does come because the ground is rock hard and impermeable.

I'm by no means an expert at all - but I'm convinced the major SSW is still having after effects felt and allowing for mid latitude blocking. Polar heights have also been anomalously low with the polar jet wrapped into quite a tight band and keeping the cooler air more bottled up than normal - bit of a chicken and egg situation.

I didn't see it coming initially, but once the big heat started to appear in April and May then I was more favouring something warmer and drier than not.....although not quite to this extent. As the stats show, it's been the driest first half of summer on record, and just a fraction (0.1c) off the warmest in 1976. It's been mad.

Perhaps we should have seen a summer like this coming. We have been experiencing extreme periods for a good few years now, it did seem to quieten somewhat 2015-17 although even then November-December 2015, September 2016, March 2017 as examples occurred.
