It started raining at 11.30am when I was at the allotment, picking veg for lunch....it had soaked through my jeans and boots by the time I got home YUK!

Still raining heavily and 13C - lovely weather for August, I don't think!

It's surprisingly gusty. Temperature gradually creeping up.

So am I the only one with the doors to the garden still open ? Admittedly I’m wearing a jumper today, but I’m not that cold. Light rain for a couple of hours now, the heavy stuff seems to die off before getting here.

All my windows are still open; but, like you, I have resorted to a jumper...First time since April!

Autumn in August is not my thing, however it was so refreshing walking in the rain on Esher Common where the water made the trees look so green, I actually rather enjoyed it. The dog got suitably muddy.

At last some decent meaningful rain for the garden. Felt a little bit fresh out there today but it was nice to take the kids football training on a softer pitch.

Absolute crap day.

Raining and only up to 12c here on 26th August.

How anyone can turn this autumn/winter like day into a positive needs their head testing.

Its summer!!! 6 months of this crud ahead...

Had to put the heating on today... wrong on so many levels.

Least those complaining that 24c was to oppressive in a summer month will be happy.

At least it keeps the kids off the streets, there's a positive for you

What a thoroughly depressing afternoon it's been here in Hastings/St Leonards on Sea. The rain arrived shortly after midday and has been relentless ever since, with winds now gusting around 30mph.

Nearby Herstmonceux has so far recorded 19.6mm today, bringing the months total so far to 102.6mm and it's still pelting down. Although the temperature has now reached 15.7c it was just 13.1c at 2pm ( bst) this afternoon.

Pretty shocking for late August.

Only thing that's comforting on a day like this is the smell of a roast dinner.

Don’t quote me on this, but don’t unusually large acorns signify a cold, harsh winter? Or is that just me hopecasting?

Well....

I know that acorns are 2 years in the making, so it could be a reflection of the the last 2/3 years of weather...but when people write off current nature happenings as something that happened in the past, I do always wonder if  it's just simply part of a bigger nature/weather cycle and dismissing it as a sign of weather patterns in the past is too simplistic. In autumn 2016, the acorns were pretty normal sized, autumn 2017 they were larger and 2018 larger still. The only fact I know about larger acorns is that they produce taller seedlings. I don't know if that has any baring on anything.

Might do Acorn Size Index as well as Coat Type Index... @lassie23 is there going to me be an October Fog Index this year?

An August evening in the Surrey Hills.  I don't mind the odd unusual day like this, light the fire, listen to the rain, watch the clouds, but at this time of year it can't be more than an occasional dalliance with Autumn.  We've just got back from 10 days in the family place in North Pembrokeshire and despite the wild and wonderful weather we get there on our 4 or 5 trips each year, it's unusual to have a day there that's quite as grim as today in Surrey.  Maybe I'm less tolerant here in the south east; in Pembrokeshire it's normal to have storms and gales, wind fierce off the sea, slate roofs made black with rain and cliff paths dizzying, high and slippery above the rocks and coves where seals are.

Ditto !

Really didn't mind all the rain today. Good excuse for a duvet day and won't need to water the garden tomorrow for sure.

Had an hours snooze at midday today and woke up in October! 12deg, very blustery and sideways heavy rain. Garden and fields looking better for it though.

Things look like improving and warming up for next weekend, but some chillier nights too.

Heating? Nowhere near cold enough in fact I have bedside window open right now. It feels warmer now than it did at midday. Last August we had multiple days like this tad evocative, shouldn’t moan expected in a British summer. September will probably be a better month than August seems to be more often than not...

Somewhat less unpleasant weather today here (not difficult!) but still mainly cloudy with a blustery wind and feeling cool at 17C. Some areas of our region are sunnier though, looking at satellite pics.

Should get a bit warmer and sunnier this week with the weekend looking quite nice, all being well.

How are your chilli’s doing? Aren’t they the mega hot ones, what will you be using them for? They’ll need heat to ripen. I have some Trinidad Perfume chilli’s ripe now, they’re like the Trinidad Scorpions but without the heat. Very nice taste, will pickle them for salads and sarnies

Perfect day for getting some work done on the allotment. Nice cool 17c with the odd passing shower. Ground is surprisingly damp underfoot, very easy to work with, whiff of autumn in the air for sure.
