There you go Brontphiles, did state the other day that heat doesn't necessarily equate to thunder!! Now pressure has fallen, we now have a more conducive atmosphere, to develop some electrical activity.

Thunder rolling around here in Lee, S.E.London. This Brontophobe will delay going to bed, until the thunder has passed!! :help:

Tomorrow the Residential Care Home, where my wife works in Chislehurst, have kindly agreed to allow Colette to take me to work with her. But it will still be t-shirt and shorts, the order of the day, as the residents don't like the windows to be opened or fans to be on, as they are well advanced in years and feel the cold, in their bones. Meanwhile the poor staff, sweat buckets!!

Will take my lap-top in with me and keep an eye on the weather plus update my "Fantasy" U.S. golf Competition. That should be enough of a distraction, should the weather  turn thundery.

Think the real reason my wife is taking me with her, is that she has her eye on a room there, for this 'ole "raspberry." :D

Has the thunder, passed yet? :unknw:

Regards,

Tom. :hi:

Great shot mate!!

Yes,reckon that was the one we were under here just now.

It was a still from a video so cheating a bit. It was never really overhead here, just rumbled to the south west and then the north east! Best storm we have had though (we have had one night with three loud rumbles of thunder all summer).

Can't remember the last time I had rain for a whole day! Finally cleared away around 8pm, a little too late for a decent sunset. A few light showers around in the west of the region but these will probably fade away before making further progress eastward.

Quite a lively thunderstorm just passed through here near Croydon in south London, thunder and lightning getting more frequent as it pulls away east, this the scene to the west before it arrived

Posted over in the storm and convective discussion before the storm arrived in Croydon, nice shelf cloud on approach , was some strong winds in the core bending the poplar tree in back garden horizontal in top half of tree, lightning got quite frequent for a cool airstream storm as it cleared. Nice way to end a grey and wet day and I guess the end of the long drought.

Tomorrow is looking fairly good convection-wise, Could be a few pokey showers, with sporadic lightning, and hail up to 1.5cm in diameter. (info   from convectiveweather.co.uk)

My god, Don't get me started on them... Here's a sneak peak of the next article's headline (Of course, written by Nathan Rao): 'BRITAIN TO BE SUBMERGED UNDER THE SEA, AFTER -75C 'ULTRA FREEZE', SET TO HIT ON BOXING DAY THIS YEAR.'

How do you screen grab off android video nick ?

Not sure about android, but a quick google suggests pressing and holding down power button along with volume down button. iPhone it is home button and power button at same time.

Take no notice of the scare-mongering idiots.

Six hours of drizzle/moderate rain for me today, followed by half an hour of torrential stuff with three crackles of cloud-to-cloud lightning. The temperature in the flat has dropped four degrees in two days, yay. It's now down to 24.8 °C, after being 32.5 late last week. The weeds in the front lawn are looking annoyingly perky already.

First ‘proper’ rain since early May,  other than 3 minute shower on 26 May and a 5 minute downpour on Sunday 29 July.  Puddles on pavements splash splash, splish splosh. Happy happy except big puppy Labrador. Who took one look at the rain, looked up at me, with his acquired Princess Di heartbroken gaze, and got into his bed.

A less technical update tomorrow :D

He needs aversion therapy. Garden hose is a start!

Distinctly chilly here at just 10C. Looks like convection is off to a good start though, could be a fun day for storm lovers. A mate flew in to Heathrow this morning and sent me a couple of snaps from the air. Nice line of Cb’s ??
