Sitting on my garden swing chair here in South Ockendon enjoying the gentle pitter patter of raindrops falling around me! Still about 27 degrees and feeling very humid and straining my ears to hear very distant rumbles! Not sure if that last bit is my imagination but the sky is very heavy!

I think it may be people moving wheelie bins around as it was bin day today Haha!

So glad to see the models have swung back around no rain for our region on Saturday, I’m getting married in the afternoon outside so have been watching each run behind the sofa like it’s winter all over again!

Heavy shower just started here now

Funny you should mention 'brontophobia', Tom...I am on the autism spectrum so have always found sudden sharp/loud noises troublesome. And, when I was wee, I'd get all excited at the prospect of overnight thunderstorms only to 'witness' them from underneath my eiderdown!

Even these days (I'm 61!) the first flash of lightning sets my heart beating at 120 beats per minute. Mind you, the cat jumps around like a loon!⛈️

Hi Ed,

Yes I'm 62 and have had the phobia since I was 10, that's an awful long time. Convinced I had the fear "implanted" by my superstitious, Italian mother, who at the first flash of lightning, would make the sign of the cross and invoke "Santa Barbara" ( Italians, patron saint of lightning and storms) , so this young lad grew up, fearing lightning and thunder, never being able to enjoy them.

Regards,

Tom. :hi:

Raining lightly here. Gorgeous smell of petrichor.

Just heard a rumble.

Thunder and lightning. Telly losing signal. Rain not too heavy yet. Just about to go under that big red blob. Wish me luck

Rain, distant rumbles of thunder in Gravesham...

Already not happy about it all.

If you’re hearing thunder then maybe that is what I can hear just across the river in Thurrock.

Raining here again with the odd distant rumble but the heaviest stuff is going up the Channel and looks like another storm or heavy shower travelling north eastwards to the west of here.

Still warm though - was 26c just before the rain started.

The combined scents of petrichor and Jeye's Fluid will always remind me of when, as a five-year-old, I made the excuse of 'going to the toilet' as a way of seeing a storm!⛈️

This batch looks like it's going too far east to hit you, it wouldn't surprise me if you heard it though.

The worst I can see and hear is just to my east. Anyone from Sittinbourne east is probably going to get some good rumbles and flashes out of this. Raining quite heavy here now though

Just had about 5 minutes of rain that contained about 20 drops

I can just about deal with that

Hopefully Thursdays rain stays out east of here as forecast and Sundays showers are non existent

That means potentially another 5 days of dry weather for my outdoor activities with the Rugrats.

Raining borderline properly now in Reigate, wonder if it will last more than the regulation 30 seconds so far this evening.  Very humid.

And in the time it took me to write the above, it's just about stopped again.

Have to give some praise to the EUR04 model, here's the ppn chart I posted this morning, for around now:

Precipitation EURO4 Tu 07.08.2018 21 GMT

Think that's a pretty good fit, to current radar returns!!

https://en.meteox.com/en-gb?fc=0&lightning=1

It's certainly closer, than the other models!!

Tom. :hi:

yep same here in North Surrey cars , orangery and all garden furniture covered in a dirty drizzle !! hopefully heavy rain later will wash it away - still hopeful of seeing some proper rain in next 24 hours ..!
