Apparently light showers will get METO to issue thunderstorm warnings if the dry spell is long enough. We miss out again on the lifting mechanism NW Europe gets annually. Cool.

Fair bit of rain here last night. It did little to make the night more comfortable.

I am really struggling with this summer, the days are great for me and my kid, but less so for my 6 month pregnant wife. None of us are sleeping much at night either. Eugh.

Reminds me of the two days of snow we had that registered all but a dusting.

Yeah. Eastbourne did very poorly out of the beasts this year. I was most disappointed.

1mm here on the Essex Riviera...maybe enough to get the odd weed to grow but that's about it.

The Essex desert continues - naff all here as I expected, And with a hot sunny week to come, the parching will continue.

It got to Shoebury ok but not much further.
Had steady rain on and off for a few hours, not sure it mounted to much.

The main thing was a reduction of the solar rays and sun to ease the heat yesterday only 21c here.

However now we face the worst thing of summer days hot and humid.already feels foul, humidity was at 98% this morning, dropped now off course.

Same here.  I don't think I've ever seen the countryside round here as dry, including 1995.  If we don't get rain soon we're going to have trees dying.

The cloud melted away really quickly this morning and the temperature is already up to 25c.

I think the trees will be fine due to the wet first half of spring, so there will be moisture deep down. Trees can go a hell of a long time without, unless they are young.

I read somewhere recently that most tree roots are surprisingly shallow; it's just that they extend significant distances laterally.  Certainly, our wisteria that always stops passers-by in spring when it flowers is struggling.

Back to the current situation, it's unpleasantly humid with cumulus and haze.

Hot today with sunny spells. Currently 27C with light and variable winds. Actually rained a little late last night, the petrichor was very strong.

I wonder how much rain it will take to make the grass green again.

More then what we had yesterday. Back to hot dry and humid again today.

Made it up to 27c, very little breeze and it feels pretty humid. Quite a lot of cloud has bubbled up but still some decent sunny spells.

Can't believe they are saying 34c.  It's hot enough

The point is, it's not me wanting the rain, it's needed.

Most Netweather members are blissfully unaware of this and are in ecstacy thinking of ever greater heat without considering that we're short of rain.  It isn't just reserves held by the water companies; there are plenty of people who struggle with the heat and wildlife is also struggling.

As Donald Trump might say: Flock the wildlife!

Who gives a sheet, these days, so long as they can still buy themselves a Slush-Puppy!

I see there are renewed thoughts that the 38.5C figure from August 2003 might be under threat.  I was in my early twenties then and was flattened by it (and it was 'only' 36C here) - I'm in my late thirties now and cannot seem to shift a touch of weight (being wheelchair-bound doesn't help) so I'm expecting to be completely useless next weekend.

Another dry very warm to hot next 7 days looks to materialise... bring it on!

What an amazing summer

Seems im one of a few on here that’s embracing this weather instead of being so het up that it’s not raining and concerned that the landscape is yellow.

Your time will come rain lovers - a whole 6 months of it - this is the UK not the Sahara  - it will balance out.

Just embrace the difference - 42 years it’s taken.

What a fantastic day it's been for watching the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the Red Arrows on Hastings seafront. Mostly clear skies, a light breeze and 24c.

The town was packed all day and will no doubt be the same for tomorrows repeat display. BBMF at 12.30pm and Red Arrows at 6.00pm for anyone interested.

On the downside I could see the smoke from the Friston grass fire on the South Downs :(, seems to have been dealt with though.

Agreed. I was a bit worried about my allotment but have managed to water it regularly. Have left water out for birds and other wildlife that might need it. It’s so nice to be able to go camping and do stuff outdoors without stressing about cold and rain, unlike last year. You are right, it’ll chuck it down sooner or later.
