Islay - not been there (apart from work) since 2003 so looking forward to it. Also hoping to get a chance to visit Jura and Colonsay, the latter I've not been to before.

Hopefully your car's rumble is either your imagination or a cheap fix :)

Broken shock and wheel bearing gone. Bearing under warranty though so only need to pay for shock hopefully. Not being fixed until next week.

Gave Cornwall a miss but made it to Ireland in our 22 year old Ford Freda. We're in Northern Ireland, kilkeel, It's foggy.:wallbash:

Enjoy Islay :)

Took the Kilbucho road to Biggar this afternoon. I swear you could swim in some of those potholes.

Snow still about in odd places and higher ridges.

Mild in Banff/Macduff today at 12C, with a sultry 13C in Turriff at 6pm just before the rain started (been raining ever since).  Light winds, dry until evening, and a few glimpses of the sun during the day.

Some pictures from Macduff to illustrate the overall grey mood of the weather today, can just about make out the Caithness coast in one of them.

As ever the A947 from Turriff to Oldmeldrum resembling a race track, never understood why so many want to speed so quickly away from the Banff coast as its not that bad.

After a hazy start it's now a fine sunny clear morning with some high cloud. I see the snow has all but gone from the lower hills. Overnight frost still remains in shaded areas.

Temp 6C at present, but surely will rise during the day. No wind to speak of.

Daffodil pickers are out in force - one group have parked their vehicle in the garden. - but it will be a good working day for them.

Lol. Enjoy the fog, we have it on Islay too. It appears to be clearing now.

Foggy here too and there is a hint of greeness in the grass fields. Heard of another biodigester going up in the area yesterday needing 6000 acres of crops to supply it so the fodder situation is not going to get any better in the future. The law of unintended consequences.Currently 6c

Grey but dry, temp peaked at 12c yesterday. Daffodils trying to open but I think they are just wondering when is the next white burial. :)

Mildest day of the year so far yesterday with a max of 11.7C (still below the monthly av. max for April though). Cloudy all day then rain later on. Some snaw patches hanging on around Gleneagles, too.

Braw sunny morn today. Bit cloudier now, but we've just smashed it with the temperature: 12.0C!

Almost feels like spring - time to finally put the trusty snawdepth ruler away for its annual estivation.

It's been a great winter and the banter on here has been superb as ever, fellow kilters. Great craic.

I'll continue to pop in from time to time over the summer, hopefully reporting lots of warm days and sunshine.

But for now, it's goodbye to the winter of 2017-18, a wee steathly stoater of a winter. :good:

Beautiful start to the day, mild with clear blue skies and very light winds.  Cloud bubbled up quickly unfortunately but temperature still managed to get up to 14C which I suspect is the highest of the year for here.  Some showers around this evening, looks like Westhill and environ had a wet evening for a time.

Must upgrade from the 4 year old phone, the photos it produces are not that great - Midmar Castle Canmore - Midmar is usually impossible to see from public roads due to trees but today was very conspicuous.  It's in the middle of the photo, honest.....

Six hours of sunshine book-ended by varying amount of haar. (Not sure if they call it haar on Islay). We got some interesting views of boats, seals and coastlines...

I would post some pictures but the naff wifi at the cottage isn't co-operating.

Finally lifted last of neeps this afternoon a good three weeks behind normal They are still very fresh and because of the cold have not really started to go to seed with the tops only just starting to green up. A few showers this afternnoon made the surface sticky again so I don"t think we will be sowing in the morning tomorrow.

Currently overcast and 8c

According to press reports these daffs have missed the boat for UK Easter sales but may well still be sold into Scandinavia as spring flowers will be a whiile there yet..Bulb quality and size will be down too when they come to lift them in July and send them back to Holland. Not a total disaster as they use tattie machinery to lift them at a quiet time of year. Currently 5c and clear here after a  wet night

NL why do they send them back to Holland? that sounds mad to me - do they need the fields for something else during the summer?

They multiply them here on contract in soils and in a climate where there is less disease pressure .It s also a very good  two year break crop for the intensive arable areas where a break from cereals helps disease pressure from growing cereals year after year.Don"t talk too a daffoldil farmer  about the wet summer of 1985 when they had to separate the bulbs from tons of mud and them dry them using expensive heat before they could send them back to Holland.By lifting in July it gives farmers an early chance to prepare the fields for winter oilseed rape or winter wheat or barley in August/September.

Mostly cloudy here though the sun has attempted a break through at times. Feeling mild with a max of 11C from a min of 4C this morning.

Not looking good for the rest of the week with damp dull weather off the North Sea and little temperature difference day and night. 5-6C throughout until Friday at least?

Sharp showers in south Edinburgh at 4.30pm. Almost like a summer downpour. Dry at home and been sunny - tomatoes are happy!

Not too bad over here in NI today, the area is weirdly like a combination of the Cornwall I grew up in (before it was Cath Kidston and Boden'd to death) and Scotland (though not a wild or beautiful). Having a nice break though, cottage lovely, lambs outside the window and kids playing around on assorted bikes. Son keeps moaning about the cold water not being properly cold lol, know what he means though. Pic of the neighbours.

A very usable dry day, max again of 14C with light winds.  Clear blue skies in morning but clouded over by early afternoon.

Couple photos from late morning looking N and NE towards Bennachie and Inverurie give an idea of the conditions.

Snag_2e7a6d1.thumb.png.c6fcd5e50aa7e7676d2ddf6f90a7cd1e.pngSnag_2e7cc5a.thumb.png.64968e0284980193603f47d5df7fc07e.png

Ground starting to dry up so gardening starting in earnest.

Considering the weeks of prolonged hard frost we've had this winter shocked to find my first ever New Zealand flatworm in the garden as they tend not to survive when ground conditions are below freezing for a long time.  Truly repulsive beasts that do the garden no good so exterminate them on sight!  Looks like I will need to set up some traps like in our previous house to keep numbers in check - just lay a sheet of plastic down and check each morning (and make sure you dispatch the eggs as well - very distinctive like black sweet peas seeds).

Not been out yet but this morning looks no better.
