The weather during the last week has been quite varied for the time of year. Saturday was a nice sunny but chilly autumn day, followed by a miserable few days of rain and flooding. Yesterday was a fantastic summery day at 21C was the joint warmest October day in the last 45 years at Glasgow airport with the latest 20C since 2005 and the joint warmest day since 27th July. Quite remarkable and likely the last we'll see of the warm weather until Spring. Still mild but but very dull and wet earlier which cleared later this evening - more rain to the way in the next few days.

Other than a couple of hours of dry, but still windy, weather late morning/ early afternoon its been utterly dismal here. Doesn't look as if tomorrow will be any better either.

Continuing hints from the GFS of cold towards the end of the month, but it could easily flip back to a milder outlook. We're talking cold enough for snow at altitude rather than anything more extreme than that. Nothing to get excited about quite yet.

Joint warmest day since 27th July , rather cold August and September eh?

Remember the 20c in 2005 , was at the end of October .

Been a wet autumn , hoping for more sunshine

A bit of a dog's dinner of a day for weather really. Started with a lurid sunrise quickly passing to strong wind and lashing rain that cleared out to a glorious sunny, breezy middle of the day. Then the cloud built from the south again, wind falling, and we got another couple of hours of heavy rain.  Some shorter bursts this evening and now the wind has picked up again for a last blast. Autumn is already outstaying its welcome but there may be several more months of this before summer returns.

The glorious weather from earlier in the week is a distant memory already after this dreich day.

Heavy rain off and on all day combined with a strong wind in the morning and the evening.

Only saving grace is that the temperature got up to 13C so not feeling that bad out of the wind and rain.

Local starlings now starting to strip the local Rowan trees off all their berries, amazing how a flock of 40-50 birds can strip a tree in a matter of hours.  Really must start recording when they do this each year and see if this correlates with the type of winter.

We finally got some of the rain that’s been plaguing other areas yesterday, with 12mm at Leuchars. We should add to that today. Farmers have still been watering fields locally, even into this week, as there has been little in the way of rainfall over the last three weeks.

A mild 12c this morning but for once the wind has dropped completely, it’s been windy for much of October thus far.

11 hours of rain today, a long time since that happened.

Goes to show how dry things have been though as the local burn is not showing any signs of overflowing (yet..).

Stopped raining a couple of hours ago and remarkably the maximum temperature for the day is outside right now at a balmy 13.2C (hovered around 10C in the rain).

A much much better day. Dry and from 2pm sunny. Lovely to see the light and with a low-ish dew point it has started to dry-up.

Overcast but dry until around 3pm then a clearance to clear blue skies, a lovely end to the day.

What a change from last night though.  Already down to 1C, compared to the 13C around the same time last night.

A nice bright sunrise this morning, but sky from around 08.15 covered by a thin stratus layer, no wind, temp 2C and evidence of a grass frost overnight.

Only venture in that direction I've seen so far is here..

If you are hoping for cold then it's not a bad start.

Back to the here and now, we're at a small campsite at Daviot at the moment and spent a large part of the day at Culloden in what was pretty pleasant weather. Off to Aviemore tomorrow for a couple of nights before we probably have to think of heading home.

Oh wow that looks interesting, ta. I dont like the very stormy bit though, the winds are getting a bit much up here in the last few years.

Rather a nice morning here, calm but cloudy, currently 10.1c. I see that the Express/Mail days are starting winter at the end of this month. Best get the shovel and the snowshoes out then, eh?? ( NOT! )

But Jeremy’s brother said it in the article so it must be happening. The Mirror and Record have followed up a day later with the same story so that proves it. Winter tyres at the ready
