A dry day until just after 6pm then showery rain off and on all evening.

Not a warm day, even though quite sunny in the morning.

A max of 13C with a cool, occasionally fresh NW breeze making it feel, well, autumnal!

Interestingly, local police have warned the local farming fraternity round here to be vigilant against theft of straw bales - just goes to show how serious the straw shortage is.

Had the first meaningful rain since early April overnight.   Back to wellies first time since mid April . Of course we had three calves born yesterday but all looking bright today.Dull and cool first thing at 7c.At least with cooler conditions this rain won"t evaporate so quickly now.Neeps had a smile on their faces too.

Indeed, more rain overnight and during the day has brought the mud back in style. I forgot to take my boots off when coming indoors at teatime - aaaargh, clarted carpet. Possibly the first really wet and dull day since March. Oh and not warm at all, and a wind getting up now.

Morning all! A lovely crisp, clear morning here, temp currently hovering around 7c. It got down to 4.6 last night so everything all a bit dewy and damp outside. I'm off to hang out the washing and pick some more brambles!

<guffaws>  What steamy sight did you find in the greenhouse?

Definitely a day of 2 halves up here. This morning was damp, misty, cool, breezy and decidedly naff, but by mid-afternoon there was patchy sun and a bit of warmth. Probably just a tease.

It's been a cracking weekend weatherwise, resembling summer more than autumn.

Some rain overnight (not that this made much difference to the garden, sprinkler on this evening - Primula's especially dropping with drought).

As for the day, a stiff SW/W breeze blowing through a few light showers of rain - otherwise, plenty of warm sunshine.  Max temperature of 21C (same as yesterday).

Local swallows and house martins definitely look like they are getting ready for migration, congregating now in pretty large numbers and making a right old racket....

Scottish countryside still looking splendid in its summer garb, view SSW from the Slack of Tillylodge Indicator....

A proper Glasgow autumn evening. Lashing rain, dark one hour earlier than it should be and heating on already.

The day started off with promise with some nice warm sunshine and blue skies but went downhill quickly from there.

Max of 14C and was dry until around 5pm, now very wet outside (hah, serves me right for using the sprinkler yesterday).

Mind you, tame weather compared with what's heading for Eastern USA; some beautiful images of Hurricane Florence on this site - link

Lovely Saturday, crap Sunday and an even worse Monday! We had over an inch of rain from Saturday through till yesterday morning. Heavy bursts of rain yesterday interspersed with clouds of midges. Pure mince! I see we could be in for a wee blast next Wednesday, first of the equinoctial gales! Perfect! I have a visitor coming up here by bus, be interesting to see if they get over the bridge!

Damaging SW/W wind today, wrecking the kids sunflowers amongst other things.

Not a cold wind though, feeling quite pleasant out thanks to lots of warm sunshine with a maximum temperature of 18C.

Considering how much rain there was last night, the ground is remarkably dry with dust already reappearing in the fields where the farmers are currently ploughing.

A bit blustery overnight with lots of rain. Will need to heck my rain gauge later! More of the same for this coming week, and I see that we now have storm names for this season! Wonder if Storm Ali will make an appearance next week. Looking rather like it! ☔

Noticed a few pink blobs on the rainfall radar  early this morning around Ben Nevis and the MWIS forecast was for wet snow for the highest tops as it does  for tomorrow  http://www.mwis.org.uk/pdf/weather-forecasts/EH-MWI-WM11680_2018-09-12_151459_9120000.pdf

Cool blustery day, mostly dry and sunny with a maximum temperature of 14 c

Overcast day today with occasional showers and a brisk W/SW wind.  Max temperature of 15C.

Also saw the first geese today, though just a mini-skein of about 20 individuals.  Interesting to see them already as our resident house martins are still around - usually there is a gap between them leaving and the first geese being seen.

Typical  mid October day with all the trees changing colour fast. a fresh west wind this morning with some heavy showers and cool at 11c, a bit warmer in the afternoon.

Dried up this afternoon to  allow us wrap up a few   last silage bales about half what we would expect off a second cut so fairly expensive/bale but in a year like this every bale counts

Yep, everything here starting to take on an autumnal tinge too. No idea what the yeald of grain or straw has been like but the local farmer has certainty been keeping busy running back and forward at all hours for the last couple of weeks.

Getting our bees settled down for winter now as there seems to be little nectar left around for them. Still plenty of bees in the hive, who have been greedily munching through the feed we've been providing, since we have been stealing thier stores of honey earlier in the year. We were holding out hoping for some heather honey but if the heather around here has flowered it's been rather subdued. No purple tinged hills that we've noticed, maybe due to the warm, dry summer?

Overall grain yields are down about 13% across the area with sandy soils worse than heavier more clay type soils which are more moisture retentive.Straw for bedding will have similar  lower yields. Grass yields for silage/hay have been more affected yields down about 30% overall with very poor second and third cuts just due to the lack of rainfall.Currently we have a soil moisture deficit still of about 7 inches of rain
