Another dry warm day . Cut some more  barley yesterday at 14% my lowest ever moisture off the combine utterly amazing for North of Scotland. I think the current soil moisture deficit is around eight inches and trees and grasses are all turning brown so autumn is here. Feeding cattle on a daily basis with zero grass growth again.

My contractor in baling the straw this afternoon in clouds of dust. P8110087.thumb.JPG.35145bd79be5b20cfcbfe26feadff12e.JPGCurrently 14c and overcast but just dry

A better day today, dry and a maximum temperature of 18C and light winds.

Not much in the way of sunshine though with a lot of low cloud, especially from late afternoon.

Still some green to be seen in the cereal crops around us so no harvesting of that yet - focus seems to be on getting the oilseed rape in.

Dreich: cloudy, dull and damp with a cool easterly breeze. Been so used to nice weekend weather this comes as a bit of a shock!

Finished cutting last of spring barley today after a small shower  late last night. A fresh east wind with a few bright intervals in the morning dried up the grain again and we finished at 3.00pm just 20 minutes before the  light rain came on. Finished on the 11th of August in 2003 but would  need to look up diaries for the date in 1976.   In an average year  harvest finish would be about the 10th of September so we are a month ahead of average.Note green of barley stubble undersown with grass although it is shrivelled and only about one inch high. Ground is stiil very dry and dust still rises from combine wheels.Currently light rain and 15c

Had a night of gentle rain and its still falling. Currently 14c

Watched the swallows this morning circling the trees outside the window about six inches off the ground feeding on insects out of the rain and then up to six at a time landed on the  dried out brown grasss and started feeding on insects on the ground. Don"t see that very often.

Cool and wet. Lots of surface water about after persistent rain for 24 hours. Yesterday’s max of 14.9C was the lowest since the 14.5C recorded on the 20th June.

Doesn't smell like autumn though, just yet.

How's that tea going down M?  I'm struggling to concentrate for lack of food.  Grey and now dry in Leith.

It was cloudy with intermittent sunshine and breezy this morning, followed by a torrential shower in the early afternoon. Temp a consistent 16-17C

Managed to catch some pleasant low evening sunshine on the dog walk. The wind had dropped and it actually felt milder than it had been during the day. Clouds looming though.

Sun has popped out in St Andrews and it’s pleasantly warm at 21c. Welcome after a grey and wet start to the week!

Interesting that temps were forecast to take quite a dive into the low teens only a couple of days ago for Weds - Sat and now they are mid to high.  21C here too...

Grain moving steadily off farm.Never seen it move this fast in my lifetime. Looks as though it will all be gone and in  long term storeage by the end of August. An interesting contaminint are thousands of ladybirds presumably because there are a lot of aphids on the crop.

Breeze set in this afternoon and started to really dry things up again. Currently 15c,  clear and breezy.

Yeah, quite warm here too.  Forecasts have been useless mostly again recently, for rain and temperatures.

Morning campers! Rained a bit last night! Rain gauge not working properly, probably too far from the receiver, so have ordered a couple of those wee plastic gauges that you stick in the ground. Cool here, breezy, showery, lovely in the sunshine when it's out!

Feeling a bit autumnal at Fortrose today, max of 16C but the strong wind made it feel a lot cooler.  Stayed dry, though plenty of showers going round and only a few glimpses of the sun.

Dolphins aplenty at Chanonry Point this evening, best time to go as the parking is quieter (and free - see Highland council have decided to milk the tourist industry by starting to charge for parking during the day).

Windy and feeling cool in Kingussie (max temperature of 16C) - plenty of showers nearby but stayed dry.

Not much in the way of sunshine either, doubt the Munro-baggers got much of a view today going by the low cloud.
