Afternoon all, well its been a stunning few weeks, to hot for me though as you all know I prefer -20c instead lol. hope everybody is well and enjoying the summer, today its dull and overcast here with a slight breeze. looks like it may stay that way for the next few days. and just think its only about 10 weeks until we can start that search for Snaw and watch the mad house go mad again. "its coming home" ⚽

Barley starting to turn gold here. Some of it's barely knee high though; it's bizarre to see.

Fine cool , dull evening so started to rogue odd wild oat plants out of spring barley two weeks ahead of normal.Fortunately even though we are up the hill we have moisture retentive soil and the majority of the spring barley is at waist height although gravelly hills are yellow and about 10 inches high. Grains do appear to be filling rapidly which is often the case even in droughted patches as the plants ensure the next generations survival. Cereals are sun loving plants and height will have  been sacrificed to fill the grain. All crops/trees are turning colour and so the countryside has the look of early August most surreal.

Neighbour commented this evening that today felt like a normal summer's day - otherwise known as generally cloudy, a few glimpses of sun, and generally a cool feel to things (max of 20C when the sun came out).

Amazing longevity of this spell.

Preferred yesterday at a high of 24c and sunny to today at 20c but cloudy and sticky

This is a beautiful spell though, really never that hot.

Valencia was reading 37c Monday on their city themometers in the shade and at 5am was 26c. Given the fiery sun over there it felt even hotter most of the day. Almost unbearable for me personally. 100f is basically my limit I’ve found, over 40c is too hot

I had no air con so safe to say pretty sleep deprived.

Returning home was gloriously cool and comfortable in comparison

That pretty much sums up today here, nondescript, mostly cloudy, max temp near the average at 18c. Most summers this would be standard fayre but this year it seems poor.

We seem to be in a period of still settled, mostly dry weather albeit markedly less sunny and warm than the preceding two weeks. I wonder if it’s a stepping stone to a more typical second half of summer or just a lull before the sunshine and warmth return?

Persistent moderate drizzle or light rain here for a couple of hours, enough to leave small puddles on slabs. Hopefully enough to revive the grass, which has been increasingly turning brown the last few days.

Looking at the radar it seems odd to me that there is currently such widespread rainfall, given pressure is high across the country....which just underlines how little I know about meteorology!

A cloudy day with spits of drizzle off and on, especially this evening.

Not cold though, max of 20C and light winds.

Picked the first blackberries today, a highlight that usually takes place at the end of July.  Everything is a good few weeks ahead of schedule - walking round Dunecht Estate today the landscape had that early August look.  Massed squadrons of clegs curtailed that visit quickly.

Why couldn't the rain be a bit further east? ;) It's still pouring down the west coast from what I can see but not here (could do with a good dollop) It is brighter here today thankfully. Slight breeze again

More drizzly rain overnight and we even have puddles could not have ordred it better as getting time to soak into dusty soil. Currently drizzle and 16c

Dry, although complete cloud cover which at times seems to threaten drizzle, hardly a breath of wind, and so with temp around 18C, it feels rather "close."

Does feel quite sticky actually bright but not wall to wall blue skies feels as if the atmosphere is building and if it does rain (anytime next few days) could be quite torrential

Murky, muggy with drizzly rain off and on all day - max of 18C but felt a bit warmer than that; now 15C.

Ground really dry, still looks powder dry even though concrete surfaces are wet.

Note to Aberdeenshire council.  What is the point of spraying tar onto roads then shovelling some grit on top?  It doesn't solve structural problems in the road but you end up with a plethora of chips on the car paintwork, especially with the delightful people round here that treat all roads as race tracks, the added grit making for more excitement in their mind...
