A miserable 7.4C here until around 1pm but a brief flicker of brightness in the gloom has seen temp rocket to 9.4C , Added to this is a keen NE wind ...

Another warm, sunny day with 20C recorded at Glasgow airport. It's been a long wait for Spring to arrive with the first high above 15C recorded on April 15 - the latest for quite a few years. Since then there's been some decent sunny spells - though not always warm- and improving vegetation growth after a long winter.

The winter was easily the best I've experienced outside of 09/10 and 10/11- 5 snowfalls of 5cm+ distributed across 4 months and a total depth of 26cm exceeds 2010. It was a kind of old school winter though quite unique with polar westerlies delivering much of the snow until the two beasts from the east in early Spring. It just goes to show that you don't need HLB to have a memorable winter and March isn't too late for impressive Synoptics to deliver significant winter weather. Unlike March 2013 which saw persistent easterlies bring prolonged cold, largely cloudy skies and frequent snow showers with some snow cover, this year we had two short but potent easterlies deliver significant snow. The first being the most notable period of winter weather in 8 years and probably the most impressive snow event I've experienced. The second just a few weeks later wasn't as severe though a depth of 5cm - the latest snow cover outside of 2013 and latest 2inch snowfall - was very impressive for an easterly in the second half of March and so soon after the first beast. The success of the fabled Scandi high so late in the season certainly raises confidence of our chances should we see a similar set up earlier in the season. As expected, after the equinox the chances of snow become increasingly infrequent and restricted to the high ground via northerlies. The final snow of the season in early April came from a promising frontal set-up which could have been conducive for my first April snow cover, alas it was mainly a wet novelty snowfall though Glasgow airport recorded the coldest April maximum since 1981 (after record low maxima in February and March).

Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for another decent winter. Now we are in May, I'm looking forward to some decent summer weather over the coming months and with the lingering twilight now upon us hopefully we'll get to see some noctilucent clouds.

Lovely evening, clear blue skies and 16.5C at the moment with light winds.

Pity the rest of the festering day wasn't like this as the sunshine has only really come out in the last hour - the rest of the day being grey and cool (12C) with a chilly brisk easterly wind.  Mind you, just shows you the power in the sun at the moment with a c.5C lift in temperature in just over 60mins once the clouds cleared.

Different note, the local estates round here seem to be massacring Horse Chestnut trees at the moment (for example dozen plus felled beside the A944 at Loch of Skene), a disease or pest outbreak I presume.

Some strange weather effects today started cool and misty and then warmed up a bit with showery rain late morning which then cleared up to very humid sunshine with mist rising off the fields and most surprisingly  in great clouds of steam  off the cows and calves.     Never witnessed that before on such a scale.

Banks of sea fog too and this seemed to be replicated over the land as well

Cooled down this evening with some fantastic clouds at sunset currently 12c.Positive side was that  it  was a  very good growing day.

After the very grey start, the sun broke through by lunchtime and another cracking afternoon. Warmest day of the year (again) with a max of 21C.

Could get used to this...

A very mixed day, weatherise.  It was a beautiful start, clear sky, light wind and temp 17C at 10.00. During the morning it gradually became overcast, a nasty breeze set in and the temp dropped within a matter of minutes. The afternoon brought a few spots of rain.

Not long home from a walk with doggie in pleasant sunshine, and accompanied by lots of birdsong. Temp around 13C.

Not too bad a day today.  Up until c.1pm it was gorgeous with unbroken sunshine and a high of 21C, though breezy from mid-morning.

Rest of the afternoon was cloudy with a noticeable temperature drop and there were a few spots of rain around 4pm.

The evening started cloudy but the skies cleared pretty quickly to give a nice sunset though cooler than of late with temperature currently sitting at 9C.

House Martins are fickle beasts, here they were in abundance at the weekend but since Monday not a sign or sound of them anywhere nearby.

When your hands start turning blue working outside, you know its not a summer day out there.

Grey all day with spits of rain in the wind, especially from mid afternoon onwards.  Maximum temperature of 13C but the stiff southerly wind all day made it feel a lot colder than that - a day to forget.

A much better day.  Plentiful sunshine and a maximum of 16C.  Some beefy showers brewed up towards the East during the afternoon but it stayed dry here.  As seems usual these days it got pretty breezy around lunchtime before the wind turned light this evening.  Clear skies now and calm, going to be a touch of frost if this continues so just as well everything vulnerable in the garden is fleeced!

Blawin' a hoolie up here! Very gusty during the night, guttering broken in half and some tiles missing. Didn't expect that! It's forecast to be like this the rest of the day so best get out and tie stuff down!

The sun is trying to come out but it feels cold out there just now with a strong and gusty southerly wind pegging temperatures down to 14.5C.

A new visitor to the bird feeders today, a one-legged Magpie.

I declare high summer has arrived just seen and heard  the first swift fly into the eaves of the house.     Also the strawberries are in full flower. I know rain and cold will appear now.

A very good weather day here in NE Sco, sunny, some high cirrus cloud with puffs of cumulous below, but pleasant temp, nae chilly wind and nae rain.. so far. Temp at the mo 17C

Spent a large part of the day picking up twiggs and barrowing them to a neighbour's bonfire site. :shok:
