Not the best camera for this pic but heyho, it was the one on the table!

Some heavy, typical April showers today and this evening's produced a nice rainbow underneath the moon.

Just been out to check cattle and nearly walked into a large badger next to the tractor .He was not the least afraid of me and the torch and gave me quite a hard stare. We are simply over run with them now and they are tearing up all our grass round the house at night making a huge mess. Currently clear and 5c

Showers - check, Breezy - check, Cool - check.  Yep, it's traditional April weather.

Max of 13C with a moderate to strong WNW wind blowing through quickly the showers of rain - not many of those though with sunshine dominant.

A group of 4 buzzards were soaring high above the house today, been a while since seen that many together.

More or less the same here, although I would describe it as more windy than breezy, gusting from the west. Came home to find a couple of items of washing impaled on the fence!

Still nae swallows.

Really not been a bad week so far in the grand scheme of things. It not been what you would call warm, but it's been mainly dry (everything covered in a layer of dust, I blame the farmers) and often sunny. As @Quinachsaid, some good heavy showers today but almost blink and you'll miss it affairs due to bring pushed through quickly by the wind.

Trees finally beginning to realise winter is over and show signs of breaking into leaf. Be nice to get some green back into the countryside after months of predominantly brown.

I'm in bright sunshine just now but very close to my North the sky is black. Radar shows a heavy slow moving shower close by. 13C.

Heavy, heavy showers here today. Was out earlier to Aldi and on the way home the temperature fluctuated between 5C & 6C and there was a definite element of hail and sleet in the showers. Just had to put the heating on in the house too.

Day started fine enough, though cool with light to occasionally moderate winds - temperature peaked at 10C around 11:30am.

Then on the horizon you see this and you know things can only go downhill....

Snag_18a73ac.thumb.png.0d9e4276c2a3d5519b9f40aba53a2943.png

And so it was with heavy rain off and on from midday until 5pm and decidedly cool with temperature dropping in the rain to 6C.  Dare I say it that the garden needed some rain.

It's cleared up since then to a fine evening with clear skies forming.  This could be good news for viewing the aurora as got an email alert saying activity is high just now.  If not visible here, will try and take the lazy option and view the spectacle from Shetland courtesy of this webcam (Shetland Webcams is an excellent way to waste a few minutes at lunchtime just now as the Puffins are nesting).

Garden is start to bloom well now, Primulas in full bloom..

Perfectly describes the day here too. Strong sunshine and almost too warm in a black top.

Fine day again but as before if sun goes in behind cloud its cold in the moderate breeze. Currently 9c

Still lots of big snow drifts on the higher hills especially to the west where skiing will last into the first week of  May at Glencoe with up to  eight feet of snow on some of the higher runs a legacy of very snowy west /south westerly winds in the first half of winter.May be this has something to do with it  https://theconversation.com/climate-change-is-slowing-atlantic-currents-that-help-keep-europe-warm-94930?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#link_time=1524479332.

Just to add still reading lots of reports in farming press that there are numerous areas in the UK where its still to wet to plant spring crops and too wet to put livestock out to grass Cattle  here still not out, hoping to in about four days time but even this is  two weeks later than the forty year average for this farm. Again maybe the above is"nt helping. Mondays forecast for the south of the UK is not what is needed and production of all crops looks like being reduced.

Cheery reading from @Northernlights this evening ;-)

Like everyone else, I'd like some warmth to go with the sun now. We had an extended heavy hail shower on Friday that was most unwelcome, specially trying to coax a garden into life.

Driving back from town just now, the car was pinging a warning about frost. Wimp.

Super picture NL of the Cairn Gorm this morning. See some hardy brave souls have pitched up a tent on the beach. Rather them than me ! Looks like an extended snow cover season on your tops. We have plenty over here and still too early for lower meadow grazing with widespread snow cover down to 1500m of below.

Yes. Six inches fresh snow this morning at Glencoe and the upper mountain now above the clouds. See the attached from Winterhighland.

So far today is a bit better than the write off that was yesterday (7C, dull and wet most of the afternoon with a touch of frost overnight).

Still some showers around today though not as heavy or as prolonged.  A decidedly chilly 7C at the moment - pleasant enough when the sunny is out though.

Pheasants really are stupid birds, they seem to have a death wish when they see a car (and going by the number of carcasses on the roads, they get that wish granted frequently).

A few sunny intervals here, but mostly Cus and Cbs above. Had a heavy hail shower when the temp dropped to 4C.

Two swallows spent 30 mins or so surveying the garden, but have moved on. :(

One grumpy farmer told me, many years ago, that if swallows do not return to your barn it means two years of bad luck. :shok:

Looks like it will be a lovely evening and sunset as skies clearing now, time to get the fleece on the seedlings.

Some snaps to illustrate the showery day round here today.  Countryside starting to green up well.
