There should be some good waves breaking onshore there after a few days of SE and E winds.

There are indeed. Plenty of sea foam too. Still can’t believe there was a couple of golfers out. The wind was ferocious! :D

Brilliant morning and early afternoon sledging! Great fun and lovely powder snow too. Almost perfect actually. Heavy snow, loads of fun and zero disruption. Just brilliant...... And it's 18th March :D

A nice 3cm covering first thing this morning making everything rather festive looking.  Didn't last long, temp up to 3.5C now and all melting pretty quickly.

No showers since dawn, just cloudy with occasional sunny spells.  As to be expected, snow coverage very altitude dependent as nothing of note towards Banchory/Aberdeen even around 11am this morning.

Driving round, surprised to see so much silage still stored in farm barns, some look completely full when you would think they would be getting low now after this prolonged winter.

May be mid May before there is enough grass to graze in fields so a lot of this stored feed will used up in  winter feeding routine until then.Straw ,silage and hay prices still creeping up at the weekly fodder sale at Thainstone last Friday and these are roughly double what they were two years ago.

Couple pics from Barking Mad dog walk on Leven beach at lunchtime today. That incoming snow shower hammered down.

Waves have been ferocious on the Forth. A lot of erosion and sand stripped from the beaches with debris, dead birds, fish, octopus etc on the strand line. High spring tide is this pm so even more damage expected.

One lesson from the past few weeks is that this easterly sourced 'non-compacting euro snow' is awful for making snowmen :D

Quite Interesting✔@qikipedia

Word of the day: GLUGGAVEÐUR (Icelandic) - Weather that looks lovely from inside your house, but is horrible to be outside in. Literally 'window-weather'.

Thought I would share :D

Decent penultimate* act in winter 2017-18 from the mini-Beast frae the East. Birling snawflakes and sunshine in a bit wind yesterday. Nothing settling...until after dark.

By this morning, just over an inch of level snaw on the ground. Beefy showers this morning before easing this arvo to less frequent and lighter snaw showers mixed with some decent sunshine. Snawcover melting gradually. Another baltic day. Max of 1.1C. Currently 0.8C/-3C.

*still convinced we're on for a White Easter. Atmosphere is in a bigger mess than the entire island of Ireland will be today after landing the Grand Slam on St Pat's.

We went for our annual walk up Cnoc Fyrish this afternoon, still in full winter kit and not feeling overdressed as is sometimes the case by March.  No pictures this time but there was still lots of old snow - I guess mostly from 2 weeks ago - plus a scattering of recent graupel. Snow cover on hills visible from there is rather strangely variable, with large patches at moderate altitudes completely scoured, and some huge drifts lower down. A function of the graupelliness...

Friends and relatives in south-west England wondering what's hit them, and too stunned to use cameras :shok:

Heads up!

For anyone with clear skies especially in the north, there are some nice pics doing the rounds of an active aurora tonight.

Beautiful morning, as ever the best weather saved until just after the weekend.

Clear crisp blue skies with light winds and temperature just below freezing - sun is strong as greenhouse temperature is already up to 19C after a near freezing low overnight.

There was also a pretty good aurora last night around midnight here though my enthusiasm to go outside for a proper look was tempered by the thermometer reading -4C  :cold:

Nice sunny morning but the strong wind is making it feel absolutely freezing! Plenty of snow persisting away from any hard surfaces this morning.

What a bitter weekend that was, few showers yesterday but a decent day.

Cold start at -8c this morning. Highland weather had Tomich with a mean temp of 1.4c from November to now, wonderful wee cold spot. Dalwhinnie was 1.5c and Carrbridge 1.9c no figures for here but we're usually the colder side of Carrbridge's readings. Working out moray way today, beautiful day so far, great to see the sun out

As others have said really quite a nice day. Started clear cloud did fill in but that's cleared again may be the best day we've had for quite some time

Has others have said it certainly feels warm in the sun. The young couple in the house behind me are sitting out in the sun in short sleeves watching their kid play in their South facing back garden. Meanwhile on my North facing side of the fence the grass is still covered in snow where the sun has not reached.

Think we may just skip spring this year...

UK Outlook for Tuesday 3 Apr 2018 to Tuesday 17 Apr 2018:

There is significant uncertainty in the forecast detail during this period, but it does look as though slow moving weather systems will affect the UK. There will most probably be a balance between Atlantic frontal systems affecting the south and west at times, with perhaps colder and perhaps drier conditions in the north. However, further snow is possible at times, more especially in the colder north. It will be windy in places with below average temperatures; some overnight frosts are likely during early April. Towards the middle of the month confidence becomes very low, but some warmer days are expected and it may become drier generally.

After yesterday's fun I've decided that I've still got the appetite for at least one more snow event before spring arrives. Has to be a Saturday or Sunday for sledging though or it can [deleted] right off :D

Agreed, so long as we get the likes of this to end sunny week days. Cracking crescent moon this evening.

Wall to wall sunshine today. Felt quite pleasant in the sun this afternoon. Snow patches still holding on with a bit of elevation on my way to work. Grass frozen as soon as the sun went down.
