Well constant light to moderate snow here since about 6 or so. A good covering everywhere again. Id say 3-5 cm, depending on how sheltered the spot is.

No idea what to make of this stuff from the west, frontal, semi convective with a hint of streamer properties is about as scientific as I can get.

Going to bed.

Snizzle now in Winchester (Fulflood) but it’s been a good few hours with a decent top up covering.

Its the small stuff that sticks the best though. If it keeps up ... nothing is melting on the roads now.

Wish I could give a visual demonstration but as I've just seen it, I'll report it. Car goes down road, snow not melted from tire tracks. Fine snow gets in crevices and helps to insulate any warm ground; thereby allowing further snowfall to readily accumulate.

Small flakes are indicative of a good dew point, unlike the monster flakes this morning , which often comes with marginal dew points.

Think we will have another hour or so and then that will be our lot I feel.  It has been a super couple of days and what a change for us down South and the West to finally get a taste of winter.  Let’s hope the trend continues for the next few winters, especially with solar minimum in our favour.

signing off now and will back again October/November on the hunt for cold again!

Thanks to all in this thread who make it for fun reading- a top bunch and by far the friendliest regional!

We will probably be here again in another 10 days chatting about the next beast

I'm a little confused after seeing a brief BBC forecast before Countryfile. The forecaster said just a few snow flurries overnight for Southern England. Has she not looked at the radar or does she know something we don't?

Pedant.

Radar wise, don't worry about anything that looks like it's fading west of Winchester. The station is FUBAR, so it always does that.

IT will fade East first! Then there will be no more snow in Winchester ...

If you play it like Blockbuster then technically you only need Beka to pop up and tell us she's only got snizzle :clapping:

We have only got ruddy snizzle! LOL

Tell me about it, I seem to be in a void free of precipitating, so far this band coming in from the east hasn't delivered diddly squat at the mo.

Well this is fantastic. I missed seeing the snow last night because of lamp post-gate, been coming down nicely, settling everywhere.  I am a happy camper!!!

I’m in Winchester and can confirm it’s taken about 10 to 15 minutes for a dusting to settle from 7:15pm onward. We didn’t do that badly last night either at least 8cms. Yes there was a gap in the radar at one point in time (yesterday evening I think?) but negligible in the grand scheme of things really!

Ello Ello!! Where the devil are ya?

The air is thicker with small flakes now. I'm marvelling in all this. Its absolutely beautiful and we are so lucky to see this, at this calendar date.
