Amber warning extended west it seems tomorrow; still about 20 miles west of me.

Surprised by the intensity of the snow as the front swept through. A covering on most surfaces which is melting now.

Please can I request that people think before quoting whole long posts. David's info is superb but having read it once it's annoying to have it quoted in its entirety!

If you click the little arrow to the left of the time the quoted post was posted you will collapse the whole quoted post. Then you don’t have to scroll all the way through it.

Heavy thick flakes just started at my mum's in Hengigstbury. It' not settling but looks beautiful. Not sure what it' doing in central Bournemouth but keeping a close eye on getting home.

Came down impressively heavy for about 20 minutes here, which with a strong east wind made for genuine blizzard conditions.

Stuck well to windward objects and tufts of grass but has undergone some melting since the heavier rates ceased. Past experience suggests it takes at least half an hour of persistently heavy snow for the drawing of energy out of the ground by the melting flakes to bring the ground surface temp down to freezing and allow lying snow to hang about for more than 10 mins.

Heavy snow here although it’s not settling.

The amber warning has moved West too. It was 5 miles from me, it's now 7. lol

If it is snowing as hard as it is tonight, I can't see any problems here. It's not settling on anything, even grass.

Pretty moderate snow now, just passing through Nunton.. but nothing seriously sticking, just a few sprinkles on grass and roofs

the only reason it isn't settling is because of all the mild days recently? but tonight it will surely settle with below 0 temps

Yes you could say that, the mild days have brought the ground temperatures much above zero, however this snow and cold rain falling onto the ground is likely to decrease the ground temperature and into tonight along with much colder air, ground temps are unlikely to get above 0'c and snow will readily settle overnight.

Such a waste of good snow. Everything is soaked again, after it dried out. I'd have preferred it to have stayed dry until after dark.
