Some dark clouds to the South of here. Not expecting anything significant, but there is a line of intensifying showers between Stoke and Liverpool...

An exceptional summer for our neck of the woods (I usually don't bother with this site in the summer.) As posters above have said there are convective developments to the south of the region but nothing electric yet. I can see dark clouds from my window facing south Cheshire way but looking at the radar, it looks like a 5 minute shower at this point. Eyes down for developments further south heading this way :)

Angry looking sky and so Humid for some reason it just doesn't want to rain.

Could do with the rain before it warms again next week.

Really quite intense those showers to the South now, but just not electrifying. Clearly we don't have the conducive parameters that are in place further North and East.

Well that band from the south did a most impressive fizzle. Not a drop made it to the ground here.

I'd have taken either a thunderstorm flickering off in the distance or clear skies to see the Lunar Eclipse, the worst-case scenario played out with just useless cloud-cover obscuring both. At least there's always January 20th next year for the next opportunity for another Lunar Eclipse.

Yes a rather uneventful night for the North West.  I've no doubt now that the fun stuff has slipped by and cleared to the east the boring, but rather persistent showers will affect us through the weekend...indeed Sunday is looking like a typical mid summers days of what we were accustomed too...lots of wind driven rain for a large part of the day.

Peeeing it down and breezy but at least it will freshen things up a bit.

just a shame it came in time to ruin a well earned weekend.

To look at the radar you'd think we're drying up after a proper soaking, but have actually had just a few seconds of rainfall.

I decided to abandon my storm chase along the m62 eastwards, after checking the radar and lightning maps the storms where already pushing into the north sea, before I even left

I am now banking on a first,   the first calender year ever without a single rumble heard or lighting flash seen in my location for the whole of 2018,  its gonna happen , which actually is very remarkable in itself, but could become the new norm

Seeing as July is statistically the thunderiest month , unless August delivers , then the chance fades anyway as we go on through September into autumn

ah yes , generally drizzly showers and bands of moderate rain with stratus filled grey skies , the NW has no problem delivering that

Down in Padstow and it's hammered it down with thunder. Lots more showers with lightning to the west. Gonna get wet putting tent up.

Just been for a walk down to the shops. Lovely fresher feel with nice strong breeze. Perfect for outdoor activities.
