Anyone on two wheels, pedal or motorised, should take it very easy. After weeks of drought this rain will turn the roads into greasy skid pans.

surrounded by heavy rain, but no rain yet here.. some quite heavy rain over Crosby by the looks of it. Later might see rain here as there's a pulse moving up from the south. Whether it maintains its vigour remains to be seen. Nothing appears to be thundery though.

Large blobs of rain here now, can't believe that after all that month long glorious heat though there's nothing convective going off

Finally, some light to moderate rain setting in here which is welcome, this will help put out the smouldering moorlands. Been a remarkable spell of weather for the past month or two. We could do with a decent amount of rain now. Looks like the first decent chance of thunderstorms today in a very long time.

Metoffice seem fairy confident of storms today. Estofex not really on board though with only a 'lower' risk of lightning depicted in their forecast.

Shocking BBC forecast. Was supposed to be clear blue skies this morning.

Fingers crossed that the edge of the rain has just reached us, so we can get some sunshine and warmth to trigger the fireworks. This is perfect rain to dampen things down though, not so heavy that it runs off.

Rain ☔️ lovely jubbly after drizzly Thursday looks to be clearing now but been heavy enough to give the grass/hills a drink...

Bit of rain here this morning, not a massive amount though.  Think this cloud may have killed the potential for any storms here this afternoon, but you never know if the sun comes out later on.    Weekend looks mainly dry as well so its not all bad !

1.2mm of rain this afternoon breaks a 21 day drought, quite impressive for these parts although we need more than that to help the garden. Private water supply also getting low. Lets hope the coming unsettled spell gives a good soak but doesn't hang around too long, this summer is shaping up to be a classic!

Just shy of 2 inches of rain.... lookslike the garden/hills soaked it up... did go as dark as night before it rained too...

Lucky you. Still looking pretty yellow/brown here. Some rain would be glorious.

Same here, we’ve lived in this house for 22 years and the lawns are browner than i’ve ever seen them.

heavy showers both Thursday and Friday mornings put down about 5mm of rain between them but it’s hardly made any difference and with today’s heat, the grass has probably dried out even more.

i don’t want an end to this fantastic summer but some decent rain would be welcome.

Summer's last hurrah looks to be showing in the models now for next weekend. How long that lasts for I don't know. However longer range modelling looks fairly set on a westerly dominated August now. Thank the lord.

The pattern that has dominated for months looks to be slowly waning. Fits and starts admittedly, but HP is gaining less and less of a foothold as it attempts to ridge in from the SW...which is a sign that the upper profile is slowly shifting.
