Yes, it keeps flaring up in small areas all across the hill, then dying away again, presumably as they dump a chopper-load of water on it.

I'd singe them with a flame thrower. Obviously not near any combustible material.

I hope the arsonist if caught is given to the firefighters to deal with.... I’m sure they’ll kick seven shxxs of hell out of them.... absolute scum....

I'm sat on the grass at the Castlefield bowl for the second Wednesday running, for Sounds of the City, and both weeks it's been a balmy evening. I never dreamed it would be like this when I booked tickets in the depths of winter.

I could get used to this!

Yes. The plants are looking stressed.

What year was the extra colourful autumn due to the dry summer?

There was something to do with the heat and dry ground that causes the leaves to turn more vivid than usual.

I remember witnessing this one summer around the mid 90s during a visit to the lakes. Can't remember which year this was. Can anyone else recall the year?

I don't keep records but the last rainfall we had here was from a thunderstorm on the second May bank holiday.

Would really like to see an approx figure for the rainfall since the start of May.

A few threatening looking clouds over the Pennines this afternoon but another day of wall to wall sunshine, no rain and a 27c + temperature.

it’s a bit hazy now though and the air air is full of the stench of burning so there must be a fire somewhere locally.

Grass fire completely closed the southbound A56 Accrington bypass, a few miles away but maybe that’s where the smell of burning here is coming from.

Has anyone actually been prosecuted for breaching a hosepipe ban? I mean, it has got to be a long shot that someone is going to be taken to court for defying one.

Any decent lawyer would rip the water company reps to shreds. Leaving me wondering, would the water company in question even risk pushing it that far, given the well known state of the water transport network

Aside from the legal consequences, in my experience people who breach hosepipe bans are unpopular with neighbours who observe them doing so.  I suppose one could send the lads round to threaten anyone frowning on your use of the hosepipe - depends what sort of place you live in.

Current water levels

Pennine reservoirs 63.9% (73.3% last year)

Haweswater and Thirlmere in the Lake District are 57.8% (79% last year).

Where on earth are you living that your neighbours care that much about your water usage to send heavies round?  Just move.

Getting the distinct impression that this spell of weather is going to go out with a whimper from the NW.

The weather seems to do all it can to prevent a widespread outbreak of storms for this region over recent years!

Even more so as there's no ground moisture to tap into anymore
