Tell me about it, I was born in Ipswich in East Anglia (lived here for 5 years now) and they are getting hammered yet again!

If winter trees were people; I am seeing a Lowry whiteout here in the Hope Valley at the moment.

Yes, I've worked there and it can be difficult to get in and out of, once the high level routes are closed or treacherous.

Fantastic scenery though.

Moderate to heavy snow again. This shower sprung up from nothing as the radar shows.

Cross-country skiis, sleds and walking poles all come in handy. (Or a friend with a tractor of course).

The scenery and the skies certainly are eternally tempting here, aren’t they?!

Not a day for handgliding off Mam Tor LOL

A few shortlived mostly light snow showers so far this morning, only a light dusting on higher ground so far.. Hoping for some heavier longer lasting ones as the day wears on, and best chance of a cover will be this evening and overnight. A very bitter day in strong gusting winds.

By next weekend I will be done with winter and longing for some warm sunshine and dry weather.

Moderate snow passing through with sun out. Incredible to think that the sun is about as strong as it was the end of September 2011 when maxima of 25+C was being recorded.

Shows how much impact an airmass type can have

Yes it is the airmass that is the important factor, not the strength of the sun. Many an April day has delivered heavy snow showers interspersed with bright sunshine. I've been reading about April and May snowfalls, and there have been many notable ones. Other important factors include the SST temp profile, which is at its coldest now, compared to September when it is at its warmest. and also the landmass, ground temps, right now they have had a long time to store cold, unlike September when the ground has been warmed for months by the summer sunshine.

Snow in March is about as common as snow in December in the north at least, and probably even more so in the hills.

Its the angle at the moment, there seems to be a very slight North Easterly component, if it would have been direct E'ly, based on the entry point over humber, we would have been getting all these that are going South.

Confused by some of the above posts as the main action wasn't due to get going until this afternoon. Patience required.

The first rule of Sod’s law is that everything which will give Landan and the sarf east the lions share of interesting weather will occur.
