Sucks to be in the SW of our region, we get all the fun after everyone else but optimistic we will get something.

If only this was true...

The patchy cover on concrete at the front of my property has expanded since I last posted.

what i want to know is, whenever they show snowfall forecasts, Northamptonshire is almost always in the one dry zone that is shown.  Why is that?  Btw there is light snow blowing around in the wind at the moment but hardly anything to get excited about.

Because you're quite a long way, from a source of moisture, i.e. North Sea, air becomes too dry.

Regards,

Tom.

...but remember the real action is meant to start this evening (as per amber warning).

Snow lighter now in RP but temperatures stubbornly refusing to go below freezing.

maybe in this event, but remember 10-11 Dec? :)

true, that was a good snowfall....just a pity it didnt hang around for more than a day or two though.  it was a wasted snowfall opportunity.

Nick - do you think there is a better chance of covering roads/pavements/concrete after dark (given the snow)?

Yeah, ground temperatures should have dropped by tonight, which combined with heavy snowfall, will allow to settle on hard ground surfaces. Though I suspect similar surfaces at elevation above 150m, such as North Downs, High Weald and Chilterns will see settling before then with lower air temps cooling the ground quicker.

big fat flakes falling in south London still, though looks like a dry interlude once the frontal snow clears before the blob comes from the NE, as long as the sun doesn’t come out to melt it all, current scene in back garden:

And from my 12 years of living in Northampton everytime we get snow we always seems to get more or less the same amount of snow.  Okay some snow is better than none but i don't think i've ever seen more than 5cms lying snow.  It always seems to be the same amount everytime.  Never a huge amount.

I'm guessing a problem with the radar site, you can see where suddenly the precip becomes lighter in an almost straight line on the northern side, suggesting a radar issue to me of some sorts rather than anything weather related.

I am getting slightly different picture on the netweather radar app compared with the netweather desktop radar.

#Dryslot :(

Looks to be heading WSW to me. Not a lot on it anyway according to a friend up the coast. False readings.

I don't think there IS a blob, its a radar error of some sort, I'm about 95% certain of that, run a loop and it shows very clearly how false it looks and how it looks very different from anything nearby.

Which direction are we looking to for this afternoon and evenings snow?

Will it be a Euro radar watch?
