I think you're wrong there if that was the case, why is it in that area and not widespread. It's a streamer full stop.

The instability out of the continent was clear to see but the funnelling effect of Kent and Suffolk coastlines helps to add some more lift - add that the uppers have dropped several degrees through the afternoon and the sea temps in the estuary may  just be high enough to give a large enough differential to generate some added convection. Those uppers rise again by midnight.

Why is every area of Of Snow that just happens to be in line of the Thames Estuary called a Streamer? It Snowed here last Night but it was called an area of Snow.

That was not a Streamer that was just a mess it’s a relative narrow corridor and indeed that’s the radar shows with precip continuously being pumped out. It’s a weakness / area of instability.

Was 2009 localised no it wasn’t. It is the most Streamer looking thing thus far!

And for that matter it’s largely offshore.

when i say localised, i mean it extends in a cone from the thames estuary. it can be quite wide and far reaching. to be fair, we had tons of snow from every direction and we also had a frontal northerly in 2010 which hit everyone. i remember the radar picture well- it looked like someone built a island sized snow machine in the estuary and turned it on full!

Yes lots of holes in the PPN have been in the Thames estuary itself moving east, but heavier PPn inland either north or south or both like this afternoon. Question, why is there less PPN in the Thames estuary itself? Any ideas?

Had plenty of ppn overhead but is always light its been light snow here for hours but just doesnt amount to anything. Always peps up couple of miles inland lack of instability on costal fringes i guess,im sure someone more knowledgeable knows why.

Cant complain got an absolute pasting from the first beasterly.

Looks like the streamer / not streamer is still gonna be giving us sprinkles for the next few hours - it continues to grow :)

Well maybe it is a subjective thing but I think there’s more than meets the eye. Could develop further intensity has increased from last time I checked.

Indeed. Just like in a northerly flow you sometimes see snow pop up, the same is true of an easterly. Get the flow in place and if there is enough instability about you may get a surprise. Doesn't look like a streamer which would be a relatively narrow band varying in direction with the flow. This is too widespread to be a streamer.

No, that wasn't a T/S last night, although looking at the METOs, "phallic" type Amber Warning, all day yesterday, they fully expected one to, set up. I'm fully in praise for them, for their efforts,  at the beginning of FEB.2009, they got that one, pretty much spot on. But their performance, over the past couple of days, for our region, has been pretty woeful, IMO.

Regards,

Tom.

You got it ;) She had two topical numbers: Wishin' and Hopin' - and Summer is Over.

Can confirm heaviest snow falling since 3-3.30pm here in Gravesend was up to 7 on the MURR scale for a short while mostly at 6-6.5

It is breaking up over us. And the latest radar shows more holes. Others might not be seeing it yet in their backyard and still lots out in the North Sea

Dew points have risen a bit, around our region, lets hope they fall back again, as the night goes on.
