Decided to walk to the shop to make the most of the heavy burst, lovely out there, winter wonderland, proper snow falling, managing to settle on some pavements and even the driveway in places. I felt very optimistic, like when snow first starts to settle and you get that sense of the possibilities to come. Shame it's eased off a bit now, but felt blizzardy whilst we were out.

All in all it was a fairly pathetic effort at snowing. Didn't really start, ended quick sharp. Hopefully there's more on it's way shortly, guess it's a mix of radar and window watching for now.

Yeah agreed! I've been sat on the radar since 4pm.

Who remembers -  in Jan 2010 i think it was ... when a trough moved up from North East France, turned into a low that stalled over southern england for many hours and gave a lot of us a foot of snow? Can that happen tonight? I'll ask Mr Blobby to fix it for us.

Some colder uppers are expected to move west into the region during the evening and into the early hours.

The flow looks ene so the Thames Estuary might help here.

Yes surprised to see the -10c line appear from 10pm to 1pm tomorrow - another 15 hours !!!

We are actually alligned perfect for a thames streamer with surface temps @-1c !!!

With a bit of Shostakovich on the side, just fantastic. Without a doubt better than the offering from the first 'beast', even if that lasted longer. Snow starting to return to the roads.

The only time I remember seeing deep accumulation of snow in Deal. The roads were filled, the hedges and fences were drifts. Being coastal and low-lying we rarely do well from any other kind of set up.

2 or 3 hours of continuous precipitation here in St Leonards-on Sea so far, varying between light/moderate snow and snizzle. Settling on some surfaces, current temperature bang on 0.0c.

As a child, I remember having quite deep, laying snow about 3-4 miles inland from Deal a few times - enough for the schools to close. This was in the 80's though!

Staring out the window towards the East, I see there is a bank of cloud approaching but a great big patch of clear blue sky coming first, I have not seen that all day. Took the washing in, nicely freeze dried and stiff.
